Well, another addition to the The Unarchiver family of programs has been released: Archives for iOS.

It is available here: http://itunes.apple.com/app/archives/id562790811?ls=1&mt=8
And the homepage is here: http://archives.c3.cx/

It's much like The Archive Browser, but for iOS. It lets you browse and preview the contents of archives on the iPhone and iPad, and lets you open files in other apps if you have any installed that handle a particular file type.

If there are bug reports or feature requests, post them on the The Unarchiver bug tracker: http://code.google.com/p/theunarchiver/issues/list

(It's better to post them there than in this thread, because if they are posted in here I might forget about them.)

Since I'm not entirely sure how people will want to use this program, I was thinking of putting up some possible improvements I could make, and let people say which one says good on the bug tracker. I will post again once I have that set up.

Post too long. Click to view the whole post or the thread page.

Hi
Are there any plans for a full screen mode for image previews? If not, could you recommend a iOS image viewer app that works on iPad and iPhone but does not make use of the built in image library ;)

Also is there a way to mass save all the images in a zip file to another app in a few steps?

15 Name: !WAHa.06x36 : 2013-01-09 03:14 ID:Heaven [Del]

>>14

I was considering making a custom image viewing mode, possibly. I'll count that as a vote for it, at least.

> Also is there a way to mass save all the images in a zip file to another app in a few steps?

I don't think iOS has any way to do this, unfortunately.

Does this app let you, or will it in the future let you zip files too or just unzip? Also, once you unzip a file, can you open the unzipped files in to other apps?

There is no zipping, and I am not sure it is possible to create a useful zipping program on iOS, since any given app doesn't have access to the files in other apps.

But yes, you can open unzipped files in other apps.

v1.3 has been released. This is mostly a bugfix release, containing the changes from the newest The Unarchiver. However, The Unarchiver is still stuck in review. It should be out soon, though.

  • Fix a bug that would make filenames that would make files with invalid filenames not work in Zip and Exe files.
  • Fix some small memory leaks.
  • Read-only attributes for files in archives are now ignored. This caused some files not to extract correctly in older versions.
  • Fix a bug with parsing Tar files.

Buenas tardes:

As the previous thread filled up, here is part 2 of the The Unarchiver thread.

It is much better to post bugs on the bug tracker, rather than in this thread! Anything posted on the bug tracker has much less chance of being forgotten by me!

So, post bugs here: http://code.google.com/p/theunarchiver/issues/list

Also, remember that if you post a bug about a file that is not work, you must also post the file itself, or else there is nothing I can do about it!

During extracting a multi-volume Rar archive (inside this: http://www34.zippyshare.com/d/55545561/225223/32134124121thirty.rar) the app (v3.7) stops with the message "The archive file is corrupted". If you press Stop or Continue button the app crashes: http://pastebin.com/qSv5Mitq . Similar crash (http://pastebin.com/yS3A6EmX) applies to the command line (unar, lsar -t) tools. Other tools/apps doesn't signal any errors in the archive when testing or extracting it.

Realized that The Unarchiver usually takes a little bit more of time to
extract archive files in comparison to other apps like Keka.
Although no matter how long it takes I have no other choice since it's the only app
that supports encoding choice when unarchiving.
Any... workarounds idea so far?

Note that this says "Opened" images. It only applies when you first open an image, not when you browse.

Also, the full-screen behaviour in 2.2 breaks other things, like switching between multiple fullscreen apps.

398 Name: K27 : 2013-04-27 04:15 ID:Dprw0QpB [Del]

Swipe browsing is nice, but could you keep the arrow key navigation?

It's one of the best features of Xee that blows preview out of the water.

Using spacebar and shift-spacebar just doesn't feel as natural as left and right.

399 Name: Anonymous : 2013-04-28 07:09 ID:G7bSzgy8 [Del]

When opening images as zip or cbz files, xee shows the bottom of the first image, even with the option to keep the focus at the top. With the same images not compressed it isn't a problem.

That reminds me, I would love the see the option to always start at the first page (to not remember the page I stopped at). The problem I was talking about actually also happens when opening a file it remembers what page I closed at. So the problem is really when opening of a group of compressed images.

This is probably a stupid question, but just how much would a bunch of <if $admin> 's in the regular template slow regular posting down? Obviously, they won't work unless I'm building the pages dynamically for admin users, and of course I already have this all worked out using an almost entirely copypastad version of the normal template for this, but its become a bitch to maintain, and I'd just like to know how bad of an idea combining the two together would be.

The Archive Browser (96)

1 Name: !WAHa.06x36 : 2012-03-20 18:00 ID:rFsOye/G [Del]

So, along with the release of The Unarchiver 3.0 comes another new things: The Archive Browser. This is the often-requested version that lets you browse archives and preview their contents before extracting. However, since this is not a program that I personally need, this one will actually cost a few dollars. Buy it if this is what you really need, or buy it if you want to support the development of The Unarchiver!

http://itunes.apple.com/app/the-archive-browser/id510232205?mt=12&ls=1

For now, bug reports and feature requests can go on the The Unarchiver bug tracker:

Is there a reason why TAB browser switches to discrete GFX as soon as a encrypted rar is being opened? Decryption done by the GFX chip? If so, the app should switch back to integrated after extraction. Right now that happens only on app quit.

Reading Archive content takes like ages. As seen on the RealUI package: http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info16068-RealUI.html I am not quite sure if this should take that long

i7, 10.8.2, TAB 1.6

See above.

Also there seems to be some kind of bug that is triggered by certain archives that makes it slow. I have not yet had time to investigate further. Most likely it will get fixed in the next version though.

90 Name: Louis : 2013-01-17 03:32 ID:LWC2Fe2/ [Del]

I missed 85, but is it necessary to use CoreAnimation to display a green (85) or a blue screen with teh password field?

Please have a look into this as GFX sucks quite some power being on mobile use. gfxCardStatus is not the best option for this issue

Good to read that the slowness might be gone soon

It uses some CoreAnimation filters, and it's up to OS X how it decides to deal with those. I guess it might trigger the discrete graphics on some systems. I don't have one, so I can't really test it.

93 Name: Louis : 2013-01-24 02:39 ID:iNXQHVhU [Del]

I do understand that OS X makes the decision, but I presume there are ways to get around this issue.
Probably some of your beta testers have a discrete GFX unit and can test? If not I am willing to help testing.

v1.7 has been released. It is mostly bugfixes carried over from The Unarchiver:

  • Fix a bug that would make files with invalid filenames not work in Zip and Exe files.
  • Fix some small memory leaks.
  • Some small interface tweaks.
  • Read-only attributes for files in archives are now ignored. This caused some files not to extract correctly in older versions.
  • Fix a bug with parsing Tar files.

Mac OS X screen savers (350)

1 Name: !WAHa.06x36 2005-06-16 19:23 ID:/DCn4yVC [Del]

Not to be confused with the Mac OS X widgets thread, this is the Mac OS X screen savers thread (this one's even more useless!).

So, way back in the day, I made some screen savers for the Amiga named "LotsaBlankers". Later on, I ported some of them to Windows, and created some new ones, but I never managed to make a stable and functional enough screen saver under Windows that I'd feel like releasing it. But now that I've got Mac OS X, I've started porting some of this old code over, since making screen savers for OS X is pretty easy and fun. First one I've got running is this one:

http://wakaba.c3.cx/releases/mac/LotsaEscher.zip

It's based on the work presented on this site, http://escherdroste.math.leidenuniv.nl/, and it is liable to BLOW YOUR MIND, MAAAAN. I've been too lazy to figure out how to make a preferences GUI for it yet, so even though the code supports all the possible different transformations of the image (Some listed here: http://escherdroste.math.leidenuniv.nl/index.php?menu=im&sub=escher), you can't actually pick which one you want yet.

I never really did anything interesting in GBA or NDS programming, but here's what I know of the current state of that scene:

  • devkitARM (a port of gcc + lightweight wrappers around each system's internal functionality) is the toolchain of choice. Has a simple Windows installer and updater. It was something of a bitch for me to get working properly on Linux, but maybe I was just stupid or something: http://devkitpro.org/
  • I dunno what the best GBA emulator for development is considered ATM, but your best bet for NDS dev is either a pirated version of the abandoned NO$GBA (if you can find it -- you're on your own) or DeSmuME (sadly the Linux version sucks, and development is stagnant): http://desmume.org/ I think the bsnes/"higan" guys are also working on a DS emulator, which you should keep an eye on.
  • NO$CASH's GBATEK is still the best nitty-gritty documentation of the GBA and the DS available. The version on his site is outdated because NO$CASH is a strange man, you can get the latest version here instead: http://www.daftcode.net/gbatek I used to have a version that I had slightly cleaned up for offline usage, but I deleted it when I gave up on DS dev, so you'll have to wget your own.

I'm trying to install Kareha on Nearlyfreespeech, but get:
An error has occurred while handling your request. The most common reasons for this are:

A malfunctioning script or CGI application.
An invalid or inaccessible .htaccess file.
Please contact the site administrator for assistance.

If you are the site administrator:

Enable and check your site's error log for more information.
Check to make sure CGI scripts are set properly executable.
Make sure CGI scripts are uploaded in Unix text file format (newline-only).

Any ideas?

Turns out I'd disabled the error log and forgotten about it. With the error log on, it tells me:

[Wed Jan 30 09:17:26 2013] [error] [client 172.17.0.141] CGI ERROR: A system problem prevented your request from being completed.
[Wed Jan 30 09:17:26 2013] [error] [client 172.17.0.141] Premature end of script headers: kareha.pl

I tried opening kareha.pl in vi and changing the format to Unix, as I had been editing it to fix another problem (turning off strict subs) in an odd little iOS app, but no such luck.

Well, there you go, you probably messed up the script somehow. Try running it in the command line and see if it spits out errors, perhaps?

Could someone please provide complete instructions on how to get this script running. Perl/GGI is a pain in the ass.

Couldn't write to file "index.html" at wakautils.pl line 1013.

Help?

Would this be a horrible idea?

That could be quite dangerous on sites that don't run with captcha. Find enough of them and it'd be a good way to really hurt a target site. Not that it's likely to happen.

You could always make it depend on captch being enabled.

Couldn't this be coupled with OpenID or something to prevent abuse?

Another thought: This is wide open to a denial-of-service attack where you set up a malicious server that trickle-feeds the data it serves. You can tie up a huge number of Apache processes that way.

Seems most scripts that fetch remote files would be vulnerable to that... Not that I can think of many that do, offhand.

sender.pl has something in it that's supposed to counter a similar problem. Whether it actually works is another question.

I need this feature, trust my users, and know nearly nothing about coding.
Could you send me in the right direction? I'm willing to learn.

They can actually just paste a URL in the file select window, and it'll work the same way. I know for sure this works in WIndows on Firefox.

I am aware of this option, but it's not optimal due to the long time it takes to finish.

Thank you for this page, it's one of the best introductions to Touhou I've ever seen.

Do you ever plan to update it to include material from the newer games?
