Xee Support Thread (334)

1 Name: !WAHa.06x36 : 2005-11-15 14:59 ID:6TsVPKGD [Del]

This is the support thread for Xee. All kinds of questions and bugreports can be posted in here. This thread will also be linked from inside the program itself.

There is also a thread about Xee here: http://wakaba.c3.cx/sup/kareha.pl/1122405906/
It contains more general discussion, and announcements of new versions and updates.

I loooooove xee! Perfect replacement of ACDSee for me. No database, no import export, just browsing my holiday snapshots folders. I love it.

Any plans to include small movie clips in slideshow?

rock on pls!

I just want to tell you how much I love Xee. It's the best picture viewer I've ever used - and I've used picture viewers on nearly 25 different operating systems.

It's also great to be able to open Amiga IFF images! (pity I have to add .IFF extensions to filenames to view them, but I can't expect this to work like an Amiga program and parse the first few bytes of the file for the filetype regardless of extension.... )

It will actually read them even if they have the wrong name if you drop them on the icon. But scanning the file contents of every file in a directory would be too annoyingly slow, so you can't browse a directory of files unless they have the right extensions.

329 Name: mr_a500 : 2011-11-28 05:33 ID:tMioNZ6K [Del]

Ah, you're right! Awesome. That'll come in handy because I've got thousands of Amiga images with useful self-made extensions I don't want to change.

I love your Unarchiver program too. Thanks very much!

Unfortunately, I cannot use Xee on Lion 10.7.2 (MBP early 2011) as it regularly causes kernel panic in video card driver.

Steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Open Xee version 2.2;
  2. select View -> Always Open In Full Screen (not sure this step is required);
  3. browse in Finder any JPEG/TIFF image and open it with Xee, image opens in full screen;
  4. press Esc to close the image.

Repeat steps 3-4 until kernel panic on step 4. It seems that large TIFF images (16 Mpix, 16 bits/channel) are more likely to reproduce this issue.

Configuration:
Model: MacBookPro8,1, BootROM MBP81.0047.B1E, 2 processors, Intel Core i7, 2.7 GHz, 8 GB, SMC 1.68f96

The Wakaba and Kareha support thread, part 3 (176)

1 Name: !WAHa.06x36 : 2011-01-07 09:57 ID:eLRTX7Vk [Del]

This thread is for all your simple questions about installing and running Wakaba or Kareha, that just require quick answers. Please don't create new threads for issues like that, post them in here instead.

Before posting, check that the question has not already been answered in this thread, or in the previous two threads:

Also check the documentation: http://wakaba.c3.cx/docs/docs.html

There is also a setup guide by Anon: http://wiki.iiichan.net/index.php?title=Wakaba_and_Kareha_Setup_Guide

Questions about "500 Internal Server Errors" go in this thread: http://wakaba.c3.cx/sup/kareha.pl/1109033191/

No, I just set the width of all the reply thumbnails to 127px (apparently the height is adjusted accordingly), and my plan is to have the OP thumbnails display at 250px, which kinda has to be the native res if I don't want them to look like shit.

That -would- be annoying. Well, either way thumbnails are still resized with a 250px max height using imagemagick by default, so it still won't be that much of a problem

So I FINALLY got spoilers working properly. I don't remember who told me, but the only way to get this to work without completely rewriting wakabamark was to hold off on the spoiler function until AFTER all wakabamark related things were completed. Anyways, I went ahead and put my code right after:

    # restore >>1 references hidden in code blocks
$comment=~s/>gt;/> >/g;

...which was on line 846 in my version of wakaba.pl. Next is the actual spoiler code:

    # new spoiler code (can't put it in 'do_wakabamark' because of 'do_spans' messing with the order of tags
if($comment=~/.*\[spoiler\].*/){
$comment=~s/\[spoiler\]*/\<span class\=\'spoiler\'\>/g;
$comment=~s/\[\/spoiler\]*/\<\/span\>/g;
$comment=~s/\<span class\=\'spoiler\'\>\<br \/\>/\<span class\=\'spoiler\'\>/g;

As the previous thread filled up, here is part 2 of the The Unarchiver thread.

It is much better to post bugs on the bug tracker, rather than in this thread! Anything posted on the bug tracker has much less chance of being forgotten by me!

So, post bugs here: http://code.google.com/p/theunarchiver/issues/list

Also, remember that if you post a bug about a file that is not work, you must also post the file itself, or else there is nothing I can do about it!

No-one ever posted a solution for this:
A directory of 777 recieves an error as the built in security prevents the script from running.
A directory of 755 prevents a file being written and so no posts can be made.

No. You can spawn FastCGI servers which run with different UIDs to achieve the same security benefits, though.

>>351
Yes, it's a bitch and is (in my opinion) unnecessarily strict on how you set things up. mpm_itk does pretty much the same thing, but is easier to set up, lets you use crap like mod_php (so you won't have to dick around with getting PHP to run under FastCGI on Apache) and doesn't whine because you use mode 775 instead of 777 on your CGI scripts.

Still love this app, but still hoping additional features could be included for full screen viewing. I find in particular the zoom +/- steps to be too large. I have a wide screen Mac, and sometimes a photo is 4:3 aspect. This fits to full screen as standard but leaves black bars on either side. I really wish I could increase to full screen. The plus key does this, but sometimes overshoots the left/right side and then the image is larger than original size making it blurry. I can see a couple of easy ways to fix this:
1) A key option to fit full screen either by matching horizontal borders or another key for vertical borders
2) An option to change the incrementing zoom size (some people will obviously prefer what exists already)
3) Option in preferences to choose to automatically fit to longest side. i.e. a portrait photo will stretch to fit horizontally (cutting off the top/bottom is expected) and a landscape will do the opposite by fitting vertically

I guess option 1 or 2 is easiest, but these features would make full screen viewing much better and should be easy to implement

cannot figure out how to move a file in Xee. When I hit "Move FIle" a window slides open on the right that says "Choose Folder". Nothing happens when you click it. Shouldn't something happen when you click on "Choose Folder", like...some folders to choose from? So frustrated. I'm using Lion, and am something of a Mac newbie. Thanks.

Wonderful, wonderful app!

My short wishlist:

  • Color labels, the choice of the 7 colors (or none) that are used in the Finder to mark files, along with the ability to use a keystroke for each, e.g., alt-1, alt-2, alt-3, etc. To see the current setting, there should be a popup on the toolbar that shows current color label, and which can also be used to set the color label.
  • Browse filters: Browse through images, only including those that meet criteria, such as desired color label(s), or whose name includes a given text string

208 Name: Anonymous : 2012-01-07 15:43 ID:kuYeNCCp [Del]

Xee is simply the best viewer out there!

It's the only one who can pull off smooth multitouch scrolling.

I just wish there was the option of having the width of the images always scaled to the window/screen width. It's very helpful when you have a bunch of images of different sizes.

I would also change the icon, because it look quite silly to be frank.
Almost didn't try Xee because of that, but I'm happy I did.

Thanks a bunch for the app and hope to see it soon on the MAS along with The Unarchiver.

209 Name: Jo : 2012-01-18 01:05 ID:u2Uv9Obh [Del]

Agreed with #208, the smooth multitouch scrolling is wonderful and a killer point for this excellent app.

Seriously, I would pay for this App if it was in the MAS, especially if the additional features I mentioned in #201 was added.

I love how I can press a button to make it full size, I just wish I could also easily fit the 27" iMac screen to my choice. The zoom increments are too large for my preferences and being able to choose that would be great.

Anyway, sorry for keep harping on about this. This still is a great program and thanks for creating it.

Do rewrite the program for MAS, you may be surprised how much money you could make with a small charge.

Love Xee - would it be able to add support for the file extension .TBN (it's a JPEG formatted thumbnail used by XBMC and the likes).

Right now Xee opens TBN's just fine, however stepping through all the images in a directory requires clicking the individual files - versus with JPG's where clicking one is enough, after that the arrow left and right will walk through all files in that same directory.

It's just a nice to have ... :)

Keep up the good work! :)

Wakaba/Kareha patches (87)

Wakaba and Kareha are refreshingly malleable, and I find it surprising that there isn't already a thread for all the "extras" can be patched onto a board, so here goes.

For the record, here are some existing patches on this board:

86 Name: Anonymous : 2012-01-15 15:43 ID:1UnSRfFr [Del]

This isn't actually a patch, but since I made it with Wakaba in mind, I'll post about it anyway.

I've created a wrapper for running CGI scripts on hosts with PHP that for some reason can't run regular CGI scripts. This means that if your host has Perl installed (more than likely, since it's included with all major Linux distros) and hasn't disabled proc_open() (which many shitty hosts tend to do for some reason), then it will be able to run Kareha and possibly Wakaba using this wrapper. Wakaba is less likely to run because it depends on the DBI module and database drivers which aren't included with the standard Perl distribution. Kareha depends only on core modules and will run perfectly fine nearly everywhere.

If you've been wanting to use Wakaba or Kareha, but your (crappy) host doesn't support CGI, I suggest trying this. It's especially useful with Kareha, since all the PHP-based textboard scripts suck.

Hey, you made PHPerl, which I never got around to making. GJ.

And now for something completely different: Swear is a game I wrote a long time ago (the original version ran on the Amiga!). I never got around to doing a proper release of it, although it was pretty much finished (there might be a bug or two left in, though). But now that I have this fancy site and everything, I figured I might as well try and do a release of it. It's multi-platform, using the Allegro library. You can download it here:

Mac OS X: http://wakaba.c3.cx/releases/mac/Swear.zip
Windows: http://wakaba.c3.cx/releases/other/Swear_win.zip
Source: http://wakaba.c3.cx/releases/other/Swear_src.zip

Theoretically, it should compile on Linux computers too, if they have the Allegro library installed, and you run make os=unix. However, this is largely untested.

As for the game itself, it's the old classic worm game, played in non-euclidean space. That is to say, it is played on the surface of various three-dimensional shapes. It's a pretty simplistic game, and it's old enough to use no hardware acceleration of any kind, so performance may vary (on my Mac, it's leaves something to be desired). There are a lot of tweaking options to play with, though. There's also a feature to merge highscore lists, and I might post mine later if someone wants to try and beat it.

Post too long. Click to view the whole post or the thread page.

Indeed. Really dig some of the new graphics modes, by the way!

>>138
Yeah. I think I may actually have messed up the blending modes a bit in the build in the zip file. My latest build changes that around a bit, adds ability to (partially) turn off antialiasing, and makes some of the line thickness selectable (so you can have a thick worm, for example). I'll be releasing the source at some point (or just making the repository public) if for no other reason than I'd like someone that isn't me to maintain a Debian package of it. :) It's kind of a mess, but such is life.

Incredibly buggy, but...

now that's a game that could really take advantage of the 3d screen on my evo 3d!
