This is the support thread for Xee. All kinds of questions and bugreports can be posted in here. This thread will also be linked from inside the program itself.
There is also a thread about Xee here: http://wakaba.c3.cx/sup/kareha.pl/1122405906/
It contains more general discussion, and announcements of new versions and updates.
And quit on close, too many icons in the dock.
It would be fantastic if you offer an option to quit when closing the last window. As one user said, we already have too many icons in our dock :)
Please add support for the new Retina screens.
Sorry, deleted one too many posts by mistake.
Under what license are you making Xee available? Thanks
It's basically public domain. If that doesn't work in your jurisdiction, consider it BSD licensed.
Is anyone still working on Xee? If so I have on request, when loading canon raw files .CR2, there is a very noticeable delay and black screen when switching from one photo to the next. I don't know if anything can be done to load the files faster but AcdSee 2 for MAC does a neat thing, it instantly loads the low res embedded jpg preview while you wait one second for the CR2 file to load. it may seem insignificant but it makes a huge difference and is much more pleasing to use as you don't have this one second of -black- between photos when cycling through a folder or gallery.
If you could implement this it would be fantastic! its equivalent to the iphone loading a screenshot of an app for a second while the app loads rather than a black loading screen. thanks!
I have been working on and off on a rewrite that should become version 3.0 at some point in the future. Not sure when, though.
I'll keep that one in mind, though, it might be a good idea. Especially if I can think of a way to scale the thumbnail up that is not completely ugly.
I have a suggestion. If the picture I closed is the last one, just quit xee.
I think this is a best viewer. I have used it for a long time. Recently I updated to Mountain Lion and now I can't save RAW file as JPEG. How can I fix this? In post 275 you wrote that Xee uses the OS X ImageIO framework to load raw files. Maybe I can take some libraries from Lion and use them?
I would like it if there was an option to zoom the image so it fits a screen wide, not just tall (so you could scroll down to see the rest). It would be better for reading images that are pages. Right now, the program just can't do that at all and I wish it could.
I should say though, other than that, and maybe that it doesn't notify when there's updates, it seems to me the app's pretty darn close to perfect.
Recently i have an problem regarding sorting of images.. the option in advanced tab in preference "DEFAULT SORT ORDER-SAME AS IN THE FINDER" is not working at all. All pictures are sorted by name only
Hi, I just began using Xee after upgrading from Mac Panther (10.3.9) to a newer system that demands OS X native apps as the default. I was using the old PictureViewer app on the old system because of its quickness and sleekness, and after trying out many OS X image-viewing equivalents, I decided Xee was the one to go with.
My only problem (so far anyway) is when I use my VueScan app to scan an image, Xee butts in and opens the image up (even though I have the "viewer" pref in the VueScan app set to "Photoshop"). On my old system, Photoshop would open the scanned image up (even though I had .jpg's set to open in PictureViewer by default).
I'm just wondering if there's some way to get Xee to open up .jpg's normally, but leave them alone when I'm scanning and wanting images to open in Photoshop instead.
There is a workaround -- I just changed the save folder in Vuescan to the Desktop and then open them up in Photoshop, but that involves an extra step.
Sorry for this long message and I'll still be using Xee even if I have to live with this minor inconvenience.
Hi I'm experiencing the same problem as post 295, move/copy file seems to be greyed out. Could anyone help? Very new to Xee but would like to move/copy very much,
Thanks,
I'd like to be able to view some additional EXIF data in the status bar, specifically the focal length, aperture, and shutter speed. Thank you.
How about an option to automatically zoom to fit when you load a new image, especially during a slideshow.
It would also be nice if the left and right arrow keys could be use to navigate through the images.
I did Rotate Counter-Clockwise and Saved Losslessly.
When I reopened the image, a strip of 35 pixels from what became the top of the image were now at the bottom of the image. It didn't happen on another image I tried it with though, and it didn't happen until I clicked 'Save Losslessly'.
Is this a bug? Does it depend on image dimensions?
I'm on OSX 10.6.8
Thanks!
It is a side-effect of lossless JPEG rotations. If the size is not a multiple of the MCU size (usually 16x16 or 8x8), some edge blocks can't be transformed. They are retained so you don't lose data, though, and will be restored if you rotate back.
Use File -> Move to... or Copy to... to open the list of destinations, then you can either pick a destination and it will be automatically added, or you can drag folders to the list.
This is driving me nuts.
When moving through images quickly or browsing through large images of 1.5mb or larger, the app crashes..
Am I just asking to much for this app?
Running OSX 10.8.4, 4 gig RAM.
Which version, and crashes how? Can you post a crash log?
My recent update to XEE 3 is also crashing my MBP. The earlier versions worked just fine. As soon as I open an image, it freezes while loading or it freezes right after it loads. I have to restart the computer each time. Unable to create crash log.
Running: OSX 10.7.5 8gig
Unable to post
Can you check Console.app to see if there is some kind of kernel crash log?
When I try to open a zip file by right click -> open with -> xee3 it always hangs and I have to restart the system. In the log I get the following every 5 seconds

Sounds like an OS X bug, really, it should not even be possible for any program to hang the system like that.
I just got the Cnet info of the new upgrade. Nowhere does it say that you have just instigated to PAY program. I know it's not much money.....but just wondering WHY and why no where does it state that Xtee is now a pay program.
Hi
Many thanks for Xee, a nice application. But - how do change the zoom increment? I can't find it anywhere. I like 0.1 zoom increment, the default is too high.
Use touch zooming, or rebind the keys to use the fine zoom commands instead.
When I open an image by double clicking it in Finder, then a little flash of the image appears on the screen right after the image has been loaded. I was wondering if it's possible to turn this off in the preference file?
How do you use multigestures to rotate? The main reason I bought Xee was because I was hoping that I could use gestures to partially rotate an image along the 360 degree axis (as opposed to only by 90 degree increments). Is this possible?
great application
have one little problem ...
MAC OS 10.6.8 Xee 2.2
Whenever a file is opened the following appears in the Console Message Log:
12/06/15 6:54:32 PM Xee[2943] Exception during initial loading of "(null)" (XeeJPEGImage): libjpeg error: Not a JPEG file: starts with 0xff 0xd9
But the image loads OK.
Have done a Hex Dump of the image files and they all start with 0xff 0xd8
is this something that can be resolved? Thanks
1) Would be nice if there was a thumbnail view available to jump quickly to the wanted pictures (if many pictures in the folder).
2) Also a sorting order would nice (scan through images by date, name, etc...)
3) Would be nice if we could navigate folders directly from Xee (like go to parent or next folder) without having to go each time through the menu and make file/open
There is already a sorting order option.
after i rotated a jpeg in xee3 v3.5.2 (43), the corrected orientation does not show in quickview and also not in preview. the saving option in the file menu is greyed-out. i havent used xee in a long time (auto-rotation used to be a blessing)... if i remember right, xee used to save the orientation to the image without me having to losslessly save the image again...
may be there is something i am missing?!? greetings from GER!
Hey guys,
it would be amazing, if I could use the right and left arrow keys when I am renaming files, to navigate within the file name. Then I wouldn't have to switch from keyboard to trackpad.
Cheers,
Grit
