Not to be confused with the Mac OS X widgets thread, this is the Mac OS X screen savers thread (this one's even more useless!).
So, way back in the day, I made some screen savers for the Amiga named "LotsaBlankers". Later on, I ported some of them to Windows, and created some new ones, but I never managed to make a stable and functional enough screen saver under Windows that I'd feel like releasing it. But now that I've got Mac OS X, I've started porting some of this old code over, since making screen savers for OS X is pretty easy and fun. First one I've got running is this one:
http://wakaba.c3.cx/releases/mac/LotsaEscher.zip
It's based on the work presented on this site, http://escherdroste.math.leidenuniv.nl/, and it is liable to BLOW YOUR MIND, MAAAAN. I've been too lazy to figure out how to make a preferences GUI for it yet, so even though the code supports all the possible different transformations of the image (Some listed here: http://escherdroste.math.leidenuniv.nl/index.php?menu=im&sub=escher), you can't actually pick which one you want yet.
There's likely to be more to come. Enjoy!
My screen goes to black then lotsawater starts. I prefer it would do the effect using whatever is on the desktop. How do I fix it please?
Here are a few Animated Screenshots of LotsaEscher you may use for your site:

Pretty belated, but just wanted to say I downloaded all of the screen savers on my Intel mac running Mac OS X 10.6.3 and they all work great. Thanks!
!WAHa, what's the feasibility of this? it would make a good screensaver brilliant.
Not very. Alpha transparency only lets you let what is below shine through what you draw on top. It doesn't let you distort it, which LotsaWater needs.
OS 10.6.4 : impossible te regulate the dimming option in lotsawater, always black as it was at the "dark position", someone else has the same ?
I would like to have an option to change the clock in LotsaSnow from 24 hour to 12 hour. AM/PM indicators not really necessary, but appreciated anyway.
I'm really bummed there is no way to have the images shuffle. Am I missing something? Do you have to manually select new ones every day?
I don't know if anyone else has this problem. I can't even set lotsa water as my screensaver on iBook G4 running 10.3.9 because it crashes system preferences when I try to set it
Having the same issue as Bez, screen goes black with drops of water when screen saver starts but preview shows it correctly. Worked on my old Mac but we recently upgraded to iMacs running Snow Leopard. I have the latest version of the screen saver. Why isn't it working properly?
>>309 Apparently this issue is caused by having the password security enabled. Always worked with this feature in the past. Wish it would be fixed in future versions. Thanks!
No screensaver that captures the screen has ever worked with password turned on. OS X blanks the screen before starting the screensaver. This is a security feature, and there is no known way to work around it.
Who is the autor of this amazing ScreenSaver "LotsaWater".? It works and it looks very nice on our Mac Collection. Do I need a Licenz?
Was wondering if this will be updated to run on OS X 10.7 Lion?
I'm using a developer preview Gold Master and it doesn't seem to work. the screen saver starts, but all I get is a black screen.
Still using this after 3 or 4 years of mac ownership, and i still get comments on it all the time. makes windows users jealous LOL
Probably, once I get around to installing 10.7.
awesome :) I'll keep checking back.
i will donate ~ once 10.7 lotsawater come out :)
oh no! doesn't work on lion
1.6 released. Should work on Lion, but now requires at least Leopard on Intel.

Might release a fix for LotsaSnow later, not that I think anyone really noticed it has a desktop capture mode too.
It doesn't seem that Lotsawater is working for Lion.....love the saver. Hope it become compatible soon
just sharing my experience: if you go to the security pref pane, select "require password after sleep" (enable) then uncheck it (disable), lotsawater starts working.
perhaps the dev will patch it, personally I don't care about a screensaver lock so it's all good!
Unfortunately, 1.6 doesn't work well on Lion with an additional screen... But I'm sure you'll find a solution. Thanks a lot for your work!
Lotsawater version 1.6 displays two static black bars on either side of the screen and one black bar on top of the screen, as if the screenshot has moved down. Is anyone else having this problem on lion? I'm using the MacBook Air, 13 inch, late 2010 model.
I just got a black-screen...or the clock if I select it to display... :(
I hope someone find soon "a cure" for this...I really LOVE it...and miss it..
I'm on a MacBook Pro late 2010
Hi Ian
I'm having the same problem with black bar at top of screen and either side
screen appears to shrink slightly before screensaver is initiated
I am also having the problem of the desktop screenshot looking as if it has shrunken down when the screensaver initiates.
Also, if I use a hot-corner to start the screensaver, the screen turns blank and I get the lotsawater screensaver over a white background.
I really liked LotsaWater so I hope it can get fixed.
Would be great if we could add some sound to the lotsawater screensaver, like hearing the water drops ya know!

I have the same problem as Genis,
Lotsawater does not work well with Lion when using multiple monitors.
I'm using the latest version of lotsawater, and this is what the problem looks like (look at the screendump)
I hope you will be able to fix this because I absolutely love this sqreensaver! Great Work guys!
The shrinking desktop is a bit hit-and-miss. Most full-screen apps will do it. Some Mission Control desktops do it and some are fine. Is it something to do with what apps are assigned to desktops?

I don't know what I did, but the shrinking desktop thing is gone. I noticed that it was less pronounced after reinstalling the screensaver, and after messing around with different desktop images it is completely gone. So, it seems to be working fine now. :)
I am likewise having problems with the black bars/shrinking issue with this in Lion. On my usual loose windows desktop, I get the shrinking. On a full-screen iCal window, I do not. The shrinking really ruins the elegance of the effect, I think. Any word on a fix?
LotsaWater 1.7 is out now. Hopefully this fixes the multi-monitor and black bar issues. Getting this right is apparently a real pain in the ass, but it seems to work for now.
LotsaSnow 1.5 is also released, with the updated screen grabbing code, for anyone who might be running it with desktop grabbing.
What I expected is LotsaWater can support screen saver with password protect. you know if I configured to provide password after screensaver, then the LotsaWater cannot display with colors, it's only with black color.
That is an OS X security feature. Screenshotting is disabled when the screensaver password is turned on.
thank you! thank you! thank you! and like, times a thousand more.
"That is an OS X security feature. Screenshotting is disabled when the screensaver password is turned on."
So is there anyway to hack around that? I'd really like to use this in a work environment.
No way I know about. The screenshot API introduced in 10.5 is also disabled when a password-protected screensaver is launched.
If anyone can dig up any hints to a way to circumvent it, I'd be very interested, but I don't hold out much hope.
I can post and I see it in the mysql database but wakaba.html is not showing any posts.
