Post links to English-language image boards here. To start off, here are the usual suspects:
http://www.iichan.net/ - DEAD DEAD DEAD
http://www.4chan.org/ - The original English-language board.
http://www.0chan.net/w/ - The Switzerland of image boards.
http://www.5chan.net/ - lol furries
Post more, unless they prefer to stay secret.
http://www.ferricorp.com/public/fchan - Futallaby I put on my site, may as well pimp it here.
http://www.nchan.tk/ - nevada
http://ychan.yosc.net/
http://ryoga.heypoorplayer.org/
http://rksa.no-ip.com:8008/~etherstyle/iboard/imgboard.htm (one big /b/, it seems)
http://mooniidx.bemanistyle.com/imgboard/ (i have no idea)
http://www.phylomortis.com/r/imgboard.htm (pretty cool board for hobby game designers with sprites and shit)
http://ctgameinfo.com/fanart/imageboard.php (as bad as it sounds)
http://board.gundams.net/ (a gundam board - obviously)
http://pichan.anre.org/ (pi-chan - art fags)
http://hotaru.freelinuxhost.com/ (experimental interface setups)
http://notchan.x-maru.org/ (NOT futallaby/wakaba!!!!!!!12)
Ah, nice.
>The Switzerland of image boards.
I think Alexander got hit by the weird Method Not Supported bug there. Maybe I should put up a notice about that.
Both the same place, but:
http://www.asuka-langley-sohryu.com
http://www.rei-ayanami.net
http://rori.tk - warning: lolis
http://burichan.pyoko.org - lots of stuff that inclodes penor
>>13
Does Switzerland produce fetish porn as nasty as Germany's? If so, I concur.
hasn't rori.tk been dead for over a month now?
Oh, also I put up a basic wakaba /a and /h at:
http://www.mikochan.org
Bugs me how quick threads stop bumping over on 4chan /a and the mods on their /h tend to be ban happy IMO. ^^ WAKAchan wouldn't let me donate the board to them becuase of the H content, btw, lol.
http://42chan.org/ - lol
I made a listing of all of the chan-type boards:
http://shii.org/overchan
I left out 42chan, Notchan and 5chan because they require a name to post. If I'm going to include boards that require a name to post, I might as well include DeviantArt and other such dumb galleries, and that's just ridiculous.
http://www.shadow-crew.com/imgboard/imgboard.htm - another personal board
>>26
Fchan unpopular? *shakes fist*
Let me find a decent webhost that supports perl, and I'll show you!~~
I don't understand your logic with the no name policy, but 5chan is dead, and I think zerochan is too, which is a shame because I just found out about it today, and I wouldn't put 42chan in just on the grounds that it has no pics worth looking at on it
>>30
Anonymity is one of the most important features of 2chan. Therefore a board cannot be a "*chan", i.e., a copy of 2chan, without anonymity.
>>30
Anonymity IS what makes these imageboards unique.
>>30
0chan.net is quite alive and kicking

are there any lolicon boards?
>>7
Îchan has one art board, as well as a random board and a photo board. It is not solely for "art fags," as you so eloquently put it.
>>41
I was joking. No need to throw a hissy fit in order to defend your art fag friends.
0chan live again...
I don't know why the owner still prefers to keep this one image board alive since it's really deserted.
It does have links to the other chans, and it's a useful backup now and then. There's also the cachet of "really obscure".
>>20
rori.tk doesnt exist.... atleast not anymore..... :(
>>46 No, it's still up. Which is too bad because I want more SA frags.
Lowtax's attention span has wavered, so SA isn't paying as much attention to them anymore.
Do any of the loli sites have kareha/Shiichan boards installed? If they do, I'd feel much safer about sending them to the Weekend Web since there wouldn't be any images.
Stolen from shii.org/overchan 's latest updates:
http://mikochan.org/ - Anime, Anime porn (silly Shii, trying to educate westerners)
http://www.maeboard.net/ - Images for Geeks. Categories include: Laptops, Data Centers
http://www.dream-anime.net/imgboard/imgboard.htm - more or less British board by the irc channel of the Final Fantasy Mailing List (FFML). Purpose seems to be a /b/
http://img.shoujo-net.com/ - a bunch of boards that circle around pics of rather soft & clean anime cuteness
http://www.blargh-net.com/mnc/roexpose/ib.htm - RO image boards ...
http://www.april-showers.com/10kchan/ - similiar to Phylomortis' board in >>6, stuff for game developers, along with some other shit.
http://imagebbs.y-hosting.net/ - male homosexual anime porn
http://withthewill.myrmid.com/ib/imgboard.htm - single image board for ... rockman related stuff? I dunno.
http://home.no.net/imgboard/g/wakaba.html - Guro board
Another stolen entry from overchan:
http://www.point-blank.cc/pchan/ - PChan - Anime, photos, wallpapers, AA
Another bunch of stolen ones from overchan. All of these are really just /b/s, with the exception of Tsunami Channel but that one isn't very interesting either:
http://bu.kkake.org/ - zone, ho
http://spcows.ae2t.net/imgboard/imgboard.htm - Whatever
http://haxt.com/imgboard.htm - huwhat
http://fanaticcrisis.mspencer.net/b/imgboard.htm - Splutterfish #brazil_r/s image board /b/ random
http://drakahn.kawanda.net/imgboard.php - Tsunami Channel
A guy on my message board informed me of the real purpose of drakahn.kawanda.net... it's a fan-board for some gay-ass Megatokyo shit. I updated the page to reflect this
What's with Fchan being marked as offline on overchan?
The imageboards on phylomortis have been removed due to serious php insecurities in Futallaby. I'll probably replace it with Shiichan 4000 when Shii releases it, unless Shii's code sucks, too.
Wakaba has gone through numerous hardenings and security fixes. Plus, Perl seems to be inherently more secure than PHP. As a completely unbiased source, I suggest you use it!
"serious php insecurities in Futallaby"
please e-mail thatdog <at> gmail.com (although I don't know if he cares)
Wow. I never thought the RO Expose imageboard would be listed. That link abov eis dead now. >.>
Anyway, the boards are now running on Wakaba, and 3 new categories and Oekaki included.
We have:
FFA - equals to /b/
RO - RO (worksafe)
REPORTS - RO game rant
KISS - Kissing/romance/sentimentality (meh!)
PANTSU - Chii~!
MATURE - RO Hentai and more. :P
OEKAKI - What is this? :P
Want them added to the sidebar? If yes, which ones?
>68
FFA would be redundant since we have so many random boards.
RO worksafe, kiss, pantsu and mature can be added. ;)
mature can be also specified as RO (mature)
RO Boards here at the sidebar would be very cooliLÍ`jscreenshots would be nice aswell, but i dont know how many RO Players are here.
I think with much more boards on WAKAchan we should think whether it would be making sense to reorganize the sidebar entries, i.e. to group the boards with the most traffic together or something.
But that kind of discussion is probably suited better for http://dis.wakachan.net/wcd/index.html
oooh! i like the idea of linking some of the RO boards
[has recently started playing RO and is hooked] ^-^
RO worksafe, kiss, pantsu added.
I have nothing against adding mature, but I cannot move without other people agreeing. You'll need to develop some consensus between the community first.
You'll want to change your board encodings to UTF-8. The current setup is mildly bust.
The color scheme is also somewhat scary. Something with less saturation, or perhaps more pastel, would be nice... >.>;
New side: http://www.wakachan.org/side.html
New banner: http://www.wakachan.org/mai/include/header.html
I'll see what I can come up with a new layout and fix those issues. Still quite busy here, but I'll work on it.
Okay.

Need to be added to the .net area, or is the change taking a while to propagate? 'Cause I can't see them.
On a totally unrelated note, I saw a vc that was Thock. No kidding. And the frame broke out to the left as I wrote this.
Takes a while for the main bunch to notice sometimes. It should be very soon though.
I forgot to mention, expect a bandwidth spike, particularly with Pantsu. I suspect you'll eat around ~2-5GB a day.
Anticipated, and spikes should be no problem at all. System's been prepared for such torture. ;)
Just need to update my other non-wakachan boards.
PS> what's with the ghost post # 78?
Deletion bug, I've been too lazy to upgrade to the fixed version. Oops.
Hm. Here's the rules, if nobody formulated them yet for the rules page.

>>115
Of course not. He is a state of america on the internet.
Would anyone be interested in a doujinshi imageboard?
This board would also serve as a lookout and linksharing area for doujins found.
The only way to find out is to make it... :p
And here we go.
http://roexpose.hopto.org/ib/doujin/index.htm
Intended for doujin hunting, requests, posting doujinshi links, and pretty much everything related to doujinshi whoring and hunting.
Please consider upgrading to the latest Wakaba version soon. Your default stylesheet hurts my eyes.
Hm. We'll see. I'm testing the new wakaba on an undisclosed area right now.
I want to make sure that when I do, none of what happened yesterday will transpire.
And the changes are done.
No more eyesore, hopefully. :P
Only problem is that post form does not go to the left on msie. But then, MSIE is teh sux, so fuck it.
Check out doujin (doujinshi trading/barter) and sakuchan (sf sakuchan) boards. :P

I had longer distances to overcome for some of my affairs.
Well hey, at least I am well-placed to implement these wacky schemes for you!
Special Shii/NEVADA shenanigan hax for Wakaba?
Looks good, thanks.
Now something needs to be done about the clustered up WAKAchan navbar (talk about that belongs in http://dis.wakachan.net/wcd/index.html though)
Agreed. If you got csses you want on the site, gimme link and I'll implement it.
Also, roexpose now uses a different way to display tripcodes. I tried this before, but miserably failed as it was parsed differently.
But now I got it right. Now it's NAME•TRIP•SECTRIP
I don't know if kareha would parse it like wakaba does, but it's a diagonal box with a question mark in the middle.
> it's a diagonal box with a question mark in the middle.
Doesn't show up right for me in either here nor on your board.
On here it's a dot in the middle of the height of the sign: •
On your board, there's just a question mark.
But this thread really isn't the place to talk about the technical issues of your board
guy got fed up with loli's. Not that I blame him.

tcgames is a fansite for tsunami channel.... not much to do with megatokyo
the image boards are unused anyway, they were made back when 4chan got really sucky and /b/ was for /b/anned for anything.... but then 4chan died and came back and it was a bit better
[06:35:48] <@moot> May we have a forum added somewhere. No pics involed, and a good overall neat & clean forum. Probably Invisionfree or a Powerboard. Would be nice. Can have different topiics as well as subforums.
[06:35:56] <@moot> we may do this in the future
[06:36:02] <@moot> because shiichan is proving to be retarded for 4chans needs
[06:36:05] <@moot> it works great on world4ch though
Shii is cursing existance right about now, the return of old-style message boards! GASP!

I am making the imageboard script just for fun and not to please some crowd. Originally the whole board was pretty closed board known by few people I know.
And congratulations because few days before your immature act I was planning to make the board also support anonymous posting but for now I have quit these plans because I haven't seen anything positive come out of the anonymous community overall.
Oh and if you don't like registeration go and bug people at http://www.moeboard.net as well
> And congratulations because few days before your immature act I was planning to make the board also support anonymous posting but
Sounds suspiciously similiar to some common argumentation line on dis.4chan.org whenever some board gets shut down.
You kind of have to accept that if you put something on the internet, you are inviting criticism. If you don't want people to talk about what you've made, you shouldn't make it publicly available. If you do make it publicly available, you should be prepared to deal with criticism. It is the duty of the developer to explain his or her decisions and address the concerns of users in a respectful and polite fashion.
Discussion there was pretty civil until you started deleting people's messages and complaining about them.
>>174
I haven't seen any civil comments come to me yet, only demands written in angry style. A civil comment would be sending me a e-mail nicely asking if I could make it possible that people could post without registering.
Making an account and posting image of it's username and password was not civil because the board is not a random board so of course I delete everything which doesn't fit the theme.
Also posting HTML in means to cause trouble and just overall bad feeling to me (yes even I do have feelings even I post on the intarwebs >.<;)
all that stuff just made me to change my mind about editing the board in such a manner.. if you want anonymous posting appear in the features then write me nicely and not like "ADD ANONYMOUS POSTING THIS SUCKS!"
>> address the concerns of users in a respectful and polite fashion.
haha addressing users in respectful and polite fashion who aren't respectful and polite towards you. Don't even think I am going to be respectful/polite towards anyone who treats me like shit. Be nice and you will be heard.
> Making an account and posting image of it's username and password was not civil because the board is not a random board so of course I delete everything which doesn't fit the theme.
Those two sentences don't have anything to do with each other, so that logical conjunction you used there is nonsensical. You just have a resentment against anonymous posting. Your mind is narrow. Let go!
>>177
The board's rules clearly state that it's for posting dark anime artwork pictures, the picture this person posted was a picture where the username and password of his account was in and there was nothing which fits into the theme of the board in it. So logically both of the sentences make quite much of sense.
I am sorry for having adressed you with the voice of reason. Clearly you are a control freak who cannot let go of a certain type of internet attitude that is obsolete around these parts and which should best be left alone.
>>179
Ok I go post a porn picture to 4chan's Anime board..
gets deleted or not?
and I get banned for it or not?
Pretty much same situation here...
and yeah to add to my previous post the point of the arguement is that it would be ok if the person would have put the username/password in the DESCRIPTION field and not into the picture. And the picture which was posted should have been ontopic and not spam.
Yeah, that's great and fine and the way it should be done.
And I also believe nobody should bother with your "imageboard" anymore and you should GTFO of this thread. IMHO!
>>182
Says who?
And I don't want anonymous 15-year old kids near me anyway.
oh and also..
too childish to admit your loss in arguement? XD
Anonymous never loses; he just has minor setbacks...
Anyway, Noelle, you didn't exactly WIN yourself. You gave no real reason to why anon posting is not allowed, managed to make yourself look insecure and childish about your own rules, and BTW: that whole bit about the person being uncivil about asking to turn on anon posting? Utter crap, That's how things work on the internet: grandstanding and a lack of verbosity. To him, posting a bug-me-not WAS asking civily. The html attack was the uncivil way. (Who was that, anyway?)
> The html attack was the uncivil way. (Who was that, anyway?)
That was Shii. He's a goon. (L^ิÖ^ิM)
Anyway, to make this short:
This thread is not about discussion of anonymous posting and neither about the pros and cons of a certain site.
General image board discussion goes here (and if Noelle feels her site deserves that title she might as well speak up there):
http://wakaba.c3.cx/soc/kareha.pl/1108009355
Discussion on anonymous posting goes here:
http://wakaba.c3.cx/soc/kareha.pl/1110953600
> haha addressing users in respectful and polite fashion who aren't respectful and polite towards you. Don't even think I am going to be respectful/polite towards anyone who treats me like shit. Be nice and you will be heard.
And that's why you get into situations like this. It's not exactly a desired outcome, is it?
To continue the earlier argument, if you display something in public, there's no requirement for people to only comment politely on it. It is nice if they do, but all of the are not going to. And you should be prepared to deal with that, and dealing with it does not involved throwing hissy fits.
Acting as the creator of a publicly displayed work is a different role than purely personal communication. You really have to lay aside a bit of your ego and just suck it up, or things will turn bad fast. As you may have noticed.
I am not using futallaby or wakaba at the dark art board because I wanted to make the board for fun not for some serious business. And in any case it was supposed to be a quite hidden board visible only to members of my messageboard.
Myself I don't want much to deal with wakachan or 4chan people overall because most of them are have quite low IQ when dealing with people (unable to understand that people actually have feelings no matter if they post at internet, talk in real life or whatsover and you can still hurt them the same way through both)
I wish anime community wouldn't be littered with such a shitty people since five years ago when I was active with this stuff the first time it was mostly nice small communities of people who were into this stuff and the the dumb majority were the ones who bullied the anime likers.. now the dumb majority is stealing the animes >-<
> I am not using futallaby or wakaba at the dark art board because I wanted to make the board for fun not for some serious business.
But internet is serious business!
>Myself I don't want much to deal with wakachan or 4chan people overall because most of them are have quite low IQ (unable to understand that people actually have feelings no matter if they post at internet, talk in real life or whatsover and you can still hurt them the same way through both)
'tis the problem with most of the people around here. (and for your information, the internet is not Serious Buisness. i have to run /b/ so i get shit there when i screw up, i get shit from 4chan because i 'copied' them and i'm 'gay'. i run a public ftp site so when a user uploads something another user doesn't like, i get assloads of emails claiming that i 'approve of [randomshit]'. this is the internet, lady (i assume that 'Noelle' implies female-ness), if you can't deal wit the trolls get out of the cave (.htaccess for the win))

http://epboards.elitepeeps.net
could it have been for promo reasons?
looks like something that could be easily shown at a demonstration and said "this is what the 4chan/futachan network has to offer, blah blah blah"
No matter how many times I look at >>243, I can't quite convince myself it doesn't say "for porno reasons".
http://img.kukaionline.com/moot/ <- HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Possibly the worst gimmick board ever.
and probly suggested by moot himself
"hey you know what would be cool, if you are going to make a chan you should make a board all about me"
>>246-247
I duno, I always liked the idea of having imageboards completely dedicated to our stupid western imageboard memes. Figures it would start with that dipshit and not classics like Happy Negro.
happy negro was one of the most anoying memes ever, just the concept of a board devoted to him is stupid
Happy Negro was the first meme to really piss people like >>249 off, and deserves a board just for that.
I remember Happy Negro flood day.
12?/something/2004? never forget
>12?/something/2004? never forget
And yet, you have forgotten. irony lol

What's this? http://4chan.us/kareha/index.html - VERY NSFW
>>260 seems to have been re-flooded with kiddie pr0n. (cringe)
What kind of pics is it supposed to have? [ a | apw | f ] isn't very descriptive.
>>261
I have no idea what the boards are supposed to be, somebody just linked the site from onechan.
Also, saying "WARNING; THERE IS CP!" is like saying "HEY PEDOPHILES! GET YOUR FEAST HERE!" imho.
>>260
It's still getting spammed with CP. And it's not even good.
>Also, saying "WARNING; THERE IS CP!" is like saying "HEY PEDOPHILES! GET YOUR FEAST HERE!" imho.
Perhaps. But for people who don't want kiddie pr0n cached on their HD, or of course could rather go through their day without seeing twelve-year-old scrotum, it's a legitimate warning, I think.
lol pedos and their fodder

here an imageboard that started recently and has many nice pics
>>270
Thank you for spamming that into the Wikipedia entry on Imageboards.
>>271
It was also spammed on the overchan bbs before any of their imageboards had a single post. Very excited to get the word out, I guess.
Someone's using Thorn besides me! :D
...To host cartoon pr0n! :/
>>273
That's what you get for implementing multiple file uploads.
Now will you clean up the posting form?
This is a board I made about a year and a hlaf ago, it may take some time to load up though :_
http://70.187.193.222:178/ImgChan.html
The reason it takes so long to load is because the board-system it is not central server based. It depends on people to gseedh it, and every image is hosted by a random person seeding the board. (Ifm the only one seeding though o_o;;) Itfs pretty good for searching for a specific fetish, the side bar is build in run-time by JavaScript based on a file list from each seeder. I dropped that project though and started another one, working on integrating that system into boards like Wakaba and Futaba (the concept of seeding an ImageBoard).

Oh, um, yeah, unexpected... WahaChan is under some amount of construction. Probably will do more in the next few weeks as we have break for a bit. Thinking a Pani Poni Dash focus as the world of chans needs not anymore /b/s and as PPD is fsking amazing. We'd be happy to setup a Pani Poni board as a Niche Anime for iichan, we'll have this hosting for the next 11 months.
http://wtfux.org/ lives again
www.wetfish.net Random/discussion
www.dryfish.net Porn
These two sites are my little pet projects, I wrote all the code from scratch; it was pretty fun.
Hmm, looks good, but from what I can tell, it doesn't seem to do anything new... Does it do anything that Wakaba or Futabally doesn't?
Some of your links seem to be broken, like all of the boards under "Media." Also, the page code is wonky and totally doesn't validate: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wetfish.net%2Fcom%2Fgeneral%2Frep%2F60%2F
What language is this written in? Are you going to release your code?
Also:
Images in "reply mode" in older threads open in the same window instead of a new window when clicked, but in newer threads all images open in new windows.
And at dryfish, clicking on "View All Threads" on any board shows the wetfish links in the menu on the left.
Dang, now I really want to see your code...
Replies either seem to be broken, or the page isn't updating correctly.
On the FAQ page, the second thread says it has three replies, but when you open the thread, there's only one reply.
So talk to us. Are you gonna share your code?
>>295
At the moment, no, but that's what I'm working on. The media doesn't work yet, but that's one of the newer things that I am currently working on.
Also, I looked through that validator and just about every error was caused by the various other things that I've added into the website from other sites; the visitor counter, and firefox button, for example.
...And, the code is written in php.
>>296
Yes, I found out about that and fixed the problem, which is why it doesn't happen to newer threads.Once those older pages are updated (read: posted in) then yes, they will be fixed too.
Oh and, WHOOPS, thanks for catching that. I guess I forgot to update the links for pageview.
>>297
On which page?
>>298
I don't expect to share my code for a little while. At the moment I am still, obviously, trying to iron out the few obvious bugs that show up. Once I finish the last of the major things, such as the media section, I'll probably release the code.

Are any of these english boards spawning interesting cultures and/or memes of their own? or is it mostly swapping (futaba) pics and discussion?
Aside from 4chan and iichan, no. Wtfux had a little something going with the webcam posters, but that was a small, insular community. The rest are just image swapping, usually reposts or parallell posts of the material swapped on the larger boards.
I don't know about 4chan these days. It used to spawn so decent memes, but these days apparently "NO U" is considered the height of hilarity. Even fark.com has funnier memes than that.

The main problem with >>326 is that it is either too different, or not different enough. Right now it's almost just threaded discussions in a harder-to-read format, and isn't really different enough to make it something truly new and exciting.

329 Name: Anonymous : 2006-02-01 15:39 ID:zb1b3Kmm [Del]
The horizontal scrolling is actually really amusing, the problem is that once you scroll east you're basically looking at a blank page. The shorter threads should scroll with you, if that's even possible.

Looks like trb is back and with yet another new domain. Questionable content as usual.
First thing I saw when I clicked on /b/:
> eji!dicksDicksdicks ## Admin ##
Fake tripcodes AND capcodes? Laaaame. Also means tripcodes can't be trust to mean anything on that board, so anyone who has a valid reason to use a tripcode should stay well away from it.
With kusaba, the admin only can set the tripcode for himself and other admins, as far as I know. Correct me if I'm wrong, but either way, it's really nothing to worry about.
Also, by your logic, anyone who has a valid reason to use a tripcode should stay well away from Kusaba. Then again, maybe other board scripts have this ability and you just don't know? Best best would be to stay away form them all in that case.
>>425
Obviously you have to trust the admins not to be dicktards and post with everyone's tripcodes. I'm just saying I wouldn't trust of the admins of that board. Or really, as you say, Kusaba' s boards in general.
I've looked at a lot of imageboard scripts, but somehow this "feature" of being able to post with a custom not-tripcode has escaped me. (Perhaps I've missed a few of its "features" in my amazement at the altogether shittiness of the script as a whole, but that's a different subject.)
My point isn't that it's not possible with other boards, it's that Kusaba's interface is actively suggesting people do this by providing a fake tripcode field. Sure, you can do the same with Kareha with capcodes, or really with any board by editing the database (or whatever storage method it uses) but it's not something that the board is specifically written to do.
I think you would need to go into the config or a related file to set the fake tripcode. It's not as if there's a page with "FAKE TRIPCODE HERE" or anything like that. Though, I do understand how one would feel uncomfortable about the whole thing if you really NEED to use a tripcode. But generally, I don't think it's something that would worry the average poster.
wow
I just tried to install that shit again, and it's even more ridiculously complicated now than it used to be.
what a piece of shit.
well, aren't admins also supposed to be allowed to inject SQL? that could easily modify any tripcode. The point is you will have to trust admins, anywhere on the Internet
>>429
I guess you tl;dr'd >>426.
> Sure, you can do the same with Kareha with capcodes, or really with any board by editing the database (or whatever storage method it uses) but it's not something that the board is specifically written to do.
My point being kusaba is the only board that actively suggests it.
>>429 Actually, with well-designed software, the admins could be lying sacks of shit and they still couldn't impersonate you.
Oh wow, yet another ...
Fuck it, I can't be bothered to even write a whole sentence deriding a new useless board anymore.
http://freechan.org
it's up and not doing so bad. The mods do a fairly decent job of keeping the "when i was", laugh you lose, post ending in xx threads away. I'd like to get some intelligent discussion boards populated though.
>>436
Isn't that run by that same shitstain who flooded every single board from the overchan with 11chan ads? And then proceeded to get DDoSed, gave up, tried again a few months later with Failchan, which also failed because he's a complete douche, then tried again with Echochan, and also failed at that?
It is a entirely worksafe imageboard that does not cover weeaboo topics.
The number 444 disturbs me so I'm making the postcount of this thread 445.
This thread should adopt a "no lulz" rule, wherein any post linking to a site containing the word "lulz" gets aborn'd on sight.

>>461
It's still broken, or broken again. You should give up the xhtml unless you're also planning on fixing your Kareha installation.
XHTML is awesome. Either your code is either well formed or it is a failure. There is no ambiguity.
>>461 you're having issues with encoding, it looks like.
Fixed now.
> A somewhat hacked up version of the Wakaba Image Board script, omitting such cosmetic functionalities like Javascript.
Why?
>>466
Speed mostly. I find those features such as auto-post linking a bit useless on slow-moving boards. The goal is in the end, faster content at slower download speeds. (In before somebody calls me out for not having compression enabled as well, working on that, lighty's being wonky.)
That being said, cross-thread linking does work through pure html.
>>466
I have JS usually disabled, so that's a welcome change.
Of course, JS files are aggressively cached by most browsers.

Yep, looks like another useless 4chan clone. At least you spent two seconds changing the favicon.
Can someone please register all ???chan.(org|net|com) domains? You'd be doing the world a favor.
>>477
No, register as in purchase, and point all of them to domain parking services. Preferably, one which returns a page saying "YOU ARE NOT CLEVER FOR HAVING THOUGHT OF THIS DOMAIN NAME"
Include some ads there, and you'd have yourself a winner.
I'm tired of seeing all these shitty Kusaba 4chan clones sprouting around nowadays.
>>480 "There are no threads in this board, why don't you start one?"
I just opened it today, so don't expect alot of posts.
>>480
Well......
Thanks for the feedback.
s/\[(\/?[biu])\]/<$1>/g
(and I really hope you are), you're already doing most of the work. Plus, there's libraries abound for other markup schemes; PHP-Markdown, for example, is pretty easy to install and use.I'd still go for hiding the mod panel login on a different page. (admin.php
, maybe?) It's a wart on an otherwise very clean layout.
Soup tj9991. Why don't you kill kusaba and work on this instead.
Also you should use thumbnails, or your bandwidth will be abused.
You don't need mod_rewrite to implement clean URLs.
>>488
That's currently the plan of action.
>>489
There was a notice in the rules area which explained the lack of true thumbnails. The framework I'm using (Google App Engine) doesn't include any kind of image library with Python.
Now I use an off-site script to process the thumbnails, which pushes them back when finished.
And, because I'd like to get this off of my back, >>487 is the first post I've made on this board in about six or seven months. I do, however, enjoy lurking here, because it is a great site of discussion. In my time here I've seen quite a few posts which appear to be identifying the poster as myself, usually including a snappy phrase involving going back to bed. I just want to say that I've laughed quite a few times at these, and I want you to keep it up.

the "JEWS" stylesheet is pretty classy, is that yours or does it come with kusaba by default?
>>504
jews.css was homegrown, though it probably should be the default style on every kusaba install considering the code that i've seen in it so far
An imageboard that I started for "extreme" sports. Still doing a lot of hacking on it. I am hoping to attract some users, but have not started actively advertising it yet.
Any comments, criticisms, or suggestions appreciated.
>>506
I look at the front page, notice the lack of frames and a layout similar to 4chan, expected something good, noticed it was powered by kusaba and was full of ads, I got deceived.
Yeah, I see everyone bashes kusaba around here, but I have not seen any good reason why? I'm all ears. I prefer working with PHP rather than perl so that is why I chose kusaba. Is there something bad about it that I don't know?
Also, are ads on an imageboard a bad thing or what? I don't think 1 google ad in the upper part of the page could be considered "full of ads" either.
>>508
There's nothing wrong with Kusaba the way you're handling it. You've obviously modified it somewhat--one of the things that irritates me is the default installations loaded with boards that are exactly like the major *chans.
The code is pretty bad too, but I'm sure you've noticed that. Don't worry, >>507 is probably just butthurt because he is the opposite of athletic.
>>509
Yes, I have looked at some of the code, especially in the board-post.class.php and it is a bit sloppy. However, it is pretty well documented so I can see what it is doing and make some changes. The biggest problem I see with it is the lack of separation of code and interface. I haven't dug in too deep on a lot of it yet though, so I may find other surprises.
Another thing I thought was strange was that there are a lot of hard coded ads, links, etc built into the code for kusaba.org that are turned on with the setting of a variable.
On a side note, my target audience may also not have a lot of experience with this type of website so it will be interesting to see how it goes.
>>510
Good luck. I swapped a phpbb-style forum out for an imageboard once. Most of the regular posters left, and the ones that stayed kept complaining that it was too hard to post.
>>511
Yes, it certainly will be challenging changing the mindset of the users. It seems that the average internet user, in the USA, has grown accustom to the vbulletin style of message boards. How do you go about getting them to use an interface that they are not familiar with? I mean its not like image boards are particularly hard to use, they just are "different".
Any advice out there?
>>512
Just explain it really, really well. Don't link straight to the board, link to a click-through tutorial of sorts, explaining how it all works so they can get a bit of understanding of the board style.
For example, point out that it's just simpler to type your name rather than logging in all the time, about how posting is easier and faster because the form's right there on the page already, show them how to delete posts (nobody can figure this one out on their own; even regulars seem to miss this, and the ability to control your post is apparently important to phpbb/vbulletin regulars)... basically compare and contrast the two styles and show why this style of board is better.
Be careful not to make it come off as some sort of crazy rant, though. Yammering about anonymity and the like to people who are very much entrenched in the idea of having a fixed identity will definitely scare a lot of would-be posters off. Maybe point out tripcodes, but don't get too technical about them, and keep them in a separate section/page.
Also, try to get people to understand that what they're looking at isn't some kind of blog or guestbook. A lot of people are hesitant to post because they're not sure what the board is.
Basically, you pretty much want to get the point across that yes, it does look different, but it's fundamentally similar to any phpbb/vbulletin board, just stripped of a lot of the fluff.
Oh, and a non-Futaba-style layout might help. A lot of people don't post because it's "too ugly". I don't get this reasoning, and personally I think phpbb looks like pure ass... shrug

His home brewed imageboard, last time I checked.
You can't download it though. You can try beg him, I'm sure he'll enjoy the pestering.
A currrently closed sourced (I believe) Python imageboard. Storlek said that he'd make it available sometime in the future, but he said it was a terror to install.
...why not put throw this out into the open too
Not really an image board per se, but just a little something I wrote to be an extremely lightweight and simple discussion board that can run on almost any server. Its featureset is far from complete, but right now it's adequate for my site so I'm not going to ``fix'' it.

That's okay, I did it for you: http://qm3monarchzifkwa.onion/tinybb.txt

The Project Chanology boards were intended for the discussion of "Project Chanology," or the on-going debates between people of Anonymous and the Church of Scientology. It was also intended for the organization of peaceful protests throughout the world. The boards have been abused by hackers and the like, which has given me only one choice - to remove them. This chan does not support or condone any type of illegal behavior. If you do not agree with our policies and procedures outlined in our FAQ and Rules pages, leave. http://71chan.co.cc
> first board I know of to run two completely different imageboard scripts (Kareha and sparky4's Yotsubanome)
they run both scripts on a single imageboard? how does that work?
Some boards are running Kareha, others are running Yosubanome.
>>606
Wait, when did Kareha become shitty? Yotsubanome, that's only temporarily in place, and only because that was the script I used for the temporary board while trying to get Kareha set up. I'll probably only keep /up/ out of the two Yotsubanome boards.
The kareha board is shit because you just jumped straight to maing it a /b/ - Random instead of having some creativity.
The other boards are shit because they are yet another poor translation of the 2chan scripts.
Does nobody take pride in being original anymore?
>>605
oh. just like how on 4chan some boards run a fucked up version of futallaby and some boards run shiitchan.
>>609
Or like on Futaba.
Or hell, iichan. There's at least 4 different board scripts that I can think of on the various iichan boards, and like 196 different hosts.
>>608
I only made it a /b/-Anything Goes because I didn't know how the community was going to develop, or if it would ever even get anywhere (by which I mean "have at least five regular posters discussing stuff"), so I needed a temporary catch-all board. And I can swear to you this: I'm NOT making yet another site with /a/, /k/, and the usual 4chan-style boards.
>>611
If you have nothing on which to base a community, you really shouldn't be starting one. You have to get users from somewhere.
4chan is popular because it had a lot of existing ADTRW posters to "kick start" the board. 7chan is popular because it has a lot of bandisgruntled 4chan posters, and so on. This is why a lot of people on this board are annoyed when people show up and go HEY COME CHECK OUT MY NEW IMAGEBOARD, because no only is it inevitably devoid of any actual creativity, they're always made just to make an imageboard and not because there's actually any sort of community built around it or anything.

Sorry, but I really don't understand japanese. :) We're going to build our own search engine, it's easy to do with kusaba.
>>668
as is usually the case with php, it seems easy but your code is probably actually broken in some obscure way that will take years to debug.

I've seen these scripts on various wapanese imageboards. I'd trust them before anything by sparky :\
>>670
All gchan fuctions are removed from ltÌèXNvg,
to respect the people who wrote them.
http://4chan.b33r.net/sparky4/+4/script/yotsubanome.phps
did you block <plaintext> html code?
This leaves you wide open to XSS attacks. Posting something like this will mess up your board:
<object></object><a style="position:absolute;left:0;top:0;width:1000px;height:1000px" onmouseover="document.location='http://www.google.com/'">Test</a>
You either have to stop all HTML, or you have to parse it by hand and pick out only the parts that are safe, which is very hard to get right.
ugh PHP is such a shitpile
Using extract() on a superglobal (especially superglobals which contain untrusted user input, like $_POST or $_GET) is extremely dumb. If you're going to do it, at least set the extract_type value to EXTR_SKIP or something so it doesn't overwrite existing variables with the same name.
Like >>680 said, if you're going to settle with sanitized HTML as markup, your best bet is to run $com though htmlspecialchars() and then reconvert safe tags back to their original value. Still, it'll probably be in your best interest to use a lightweight markup language instead, like Textile or Markdown.
Oh, living crap, learn how to do it right.
Actually just don't write a single line of code for the web until you have read and understood the entirety of this page -- http://ha.ckers.org/xss.html
Then, and only then, should you think about implementing your own input sanitizer. And even at that point, don't do it, because other people have already solved the problem much better than you can.
>>679
any time gchan anytime ^^
because you improved the futaba script ^^
you earned my respect!
You can easily get around that by adding spaces around the "=".
The point is, it's nearly impossible to stop people from abusing HTML posting. There is pretty much always some trick you can use to get around simple word filters. You really do need to run htmlspecialchars() on all user input, or it will never be secure. If you want to add youtube embedding, you're going to have to make some way to generate the HTML code yourself, and not let a user input it.
> If you want to add youtube embedding, you're going to have to make some way to generate the HTML code yourself, and not let a user input it.
This.
There's many ways it could be done. You could add an extra input field in the post form for youtube URLs, which can be parsed with the rest of the post. Just make sure the URL isn't malformed and points to an actual youtube video, and from that point you can nest the URL in whatever HTML you feel like to display it.

>>764
There have been far too many `4chons' over the years.
I don't see why there are so many English image boards these days. Obviously it's a great format, but everyone seems to just want their own 4chan clones (or worse, clones of 4chan clones). Why not use the existing image boards?
>>765
It would be nice if there were more boards directed at unique topics not yet covered by other sites rather than what you described
>>765
I agree with you, but 4chon was not designed to be a mere 4chan clone (despite the name, which was only chosen because I had the domain lying around at the time of launch). 4chon was created as a reincarnation of the boards axed from 4chan (/r9k/ and /new/).
>>767
But--and let's be honest here--those were the worst boards.

Wow, So many of the links in this thread are dead.
Someone should post a list of all functional links remaining in the thread.
I wouldn't expect any of them posted 2006 onward to still work...unless they're already well known. This is a very old thread and so a lot of the ones posted earlier last decade are long gone.
Maybe I'll spend some time getting an up to date "overchan" listing going of image and text boards, but it won't be for a while. There are already similar sites out there, though they also contain a lot of dead links so I can scour through those and use other sources and see what I can come up with.
