That was pretty lame, though: just a bunch of poorly-coordinated, weak, individual DoS attempts. No botnets = not true DDoS.

Exactly: it's too elaborate to be fake. I didn't mean to imply that lies are never told on IRC, but merely that the conversations recorded in an authentic IRC log are pretty good evidence of what transpired.
