Wakaba or Kareha (22)

Hello

It's not clear to me which is better?
Is Wakaba+database more suitable for big ass sites or there isn't much of a difference if I use Kareha + image mode?

What will be the better thing to do? a site with an image section which runs on Wakaba + text board section which runs on Kareha or it would be the same thing as using Kareha for images and text?

thanks.

You know, with this much time you could just have tested it out yourself. Anyways... I have used them both and I say: definitely use wakaba, if you can. It has a better management panel, global postcount (cosmetics!) and some other little features.

A question for WAHa: I was curious, if you plan to develop Wakaba further? Because right now many sites are migrating to Trevorchan and it wouldn't be nice, if such a... hack became the definitive imageboard software.

i've went with raping wakaba to do what i want it to. trevorchan seems kinda loose knit imo.

in the past couple days I have revamped the post form and added a collapsible thread feature that displays some information about the thread in the empty space. we are currently working on making sticky threads work. we have a pretty solid idea on how to implement it, but it might take some time.

if you want to check out what i'm up to with wakaba goto http://lulz.net/furi/ WARNING THIS IS A YIFF BOARD PLEASE PAY THE FURRIES NO ATTENTION.

There really isn't much to do, except bugfixing (there are a couple that I've been too lazy to fix, I admit). The script is pretty much done.

People use trevorchan because it's PHP. Not much that can be done about that. It's slower, less secure, and has less features, but lots of people are afraid to use anything but PHP.

> sticky threads

Can I propose "immortal threads" as an alternative? They would be exempt from automatic deletion and permasage.

Same purpose as sticky threads, except they don't clutter the top of the board and annoy everyone.

ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

how about both. stickies are good for short term "important" stuff. and not everyone visits the pages farther back. also, i keep usually 200-300 threads on my boards at a time so it's not in everyones best interest to crawl through every page.

Well, for me I went with Trevorchan because I can't find a decent hosting company in my country that offers Perl :(

wrong.
you should put stuff like that in include/rules.html or include/mid.html instead.

no one can tell anyone what they should do with their imageboard, site, whatever. well.. you can.. but it's kind of annoying and also fairly stupid.

requesting a feature that many people consider to be a good idea isn't a bad thing to do. if stickies are such a huge step backwards for anonymous imageboards then why does 4chan implement them?

i'm not saying that 4chan is the only imageboard site on the planet.. but how many /b/tards do you think even know what futaba channel is? having a hands off moderation approach is enforced (or would that be not enforced??) to make the user feel comfortable. ie making people feel that they will not be banned for having an opinion.

stickying a thread that anonymous enjoys is not going to threaten what little relationship the moderators have with the users. also, making an "important" sticky thread is very easy and it's placed where everyone will see it. putting something in the 'rules.html' doesn't exactly mean that people will see it. how many times have you had someone complaining about "WHY CAN'T I POST THIS TWELVE MEGABYTE MP3?!?!" or "WHY CAN'T I POST??? IT SAY WRONG VERICODE?" people are dumb.

> if stickies are such a huge step backwards for anonymous imageboards then why does 4chan implement them?

Because 4chan is run by SA goons, and they're imported SA features into a completely different kind of environment. Just like "USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST".

Last I heard, 4chan were starting to disable stickies on certain boards like /b/.

Never and sometimes respectively, but the second isn't exactly going to be solved by stickies, is it?

Snacks imported a bunch of random stuff from FYAD, and that was in there. We try not to use them. Their miniscule use diminishes to nothing on websites that aren't large, and there's only one large website around here.

I'd kind of like to be able to make threads immortal, though.

Read between the lines. I am stating the fact that people are dumb enough to not see things that are written to rules.html, even though it is right there under the post form. A lot of people just don't pay attention to it. Seeing as how.. well almost all of the imageboards have the same format for the rules and they are usually just the same shit repeated.

>I'd kind of like to be able to make threads immortal, though.

What about thread archival? Kind of a step in the right direction.. only with seperation from the other threads :X

rules.html says nothing about vericodes, and nobody complains about filetypes, so neither of your points are valid in that respect.

Plus, you know, you can use HTML to actually make stuff stand out, if it really is important?

Um, that doesn't change the fact that people don't usually pay attention to things in or around the post form area.

Maybe it is definitely better to make a gaudy, flashing red message under the post form rather than.. hey WAIT A MINUTE. Why is there a manager post option that allows HTML?

............

............

Huh.

Just a thought.

Just make it quite clear in the rules, that the post form area is important.
And that there is no stickies. And if they can't do that, they're retards, who should be banned.

>>12
I now have the urge to talk about useless features we have seen added to image boards. (e.g. checkmark for sage, without explaining what sage is)

And they're probably too dumb to understand that they are replying to posts that are ten months old.
