Shitty forum software is ripping off the Wakaba logo!
http://getvanilla.com/
Yeah, I know, a wakaba is just the logo for "inexperienced driver". I just wanted an excuse to link to this asinine software.
Well, at least it's not as horrid as phpBB-clone-of-the-week.
Eh, I think Trebuchet MS everywhere + abusing CSS's "padding" feature is pretty bad. I wouldn't use any forum that ran this software.
It looks more like the futaba logo, with two leaves and all green instead of half yellow.
get your eyes checked, if you think that some girl riding a toad and a smoking peach thing is anything similar to a pair of vanilla leaves :P
>>5 After I read that I feel that humanity has no future. There, I was looking for the reply button but I couldn't find it. Oh well, I guess I won't be replying.
> [Closed]
kinda off-topic: have any of you ever seen a closed thread on 2channel? i know the option exists, as it is explained in their offical faq but i never saw actually saw a closed thread.
I also lolled @
> Your whole concept is based off anonmyity and how that is a good thing. Well, it might be a good thing for you, and it might even be a good thing for the Japanese, but Americans/Westerners tend to be much more individualistic. I don't want to sit there and anonymously post comments and never get recognized for them being mine.
Good times!
TIHS IS MINE LEJITIMIT COMMENT OTZ TO ME I RULE THE WORD
> Wakaba is also written in perl, the only place I think I have seen that board used is on 4chan and that place is a damn mess.
Speaks for itself.
Both of these threads make me fear for humanity. Shii's "kahera must be better because japan is superior" is no better than their ignorant replies.
Vanilla looks well designed and not horrible. Although the design is a bit clumbsy for what is does now it works and it allows for easy extensibility. ($this->Context->Session->User->AdminCategories etc would make me want to base my head in if I had to write it, but someone else did all of the work for me!)
I dunno, I can only note that you can discuss this here but not there. I'd invite them over to share their opinions, only I can't.
So after some looking around (since I have a bit of time in my hands and such a forum makes me want to troll it) i logged in as guest/guest and looked at some threads. I saw this picture in a "signature" of someone. http://www.lifethroughapolaroid.com/ben/beno8beanie.jpg
Now I can answer the question on the application screen:
>Whay do you want to join this community?
: Eee. I think I don't want to.
most deliciously laughable. Ignorance and assumptions, assumptions and ignorance!
This message is to inform you that your account at Lussumo Community has been changed. You have been assigned banned status.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
> Some of the people on that site have been outright hostile towards Vanilla, and I really don't understand why. Why give a forum like Vanilla, which is trying to be different than all the other IPB-clone forums out there a hard time? How does that make any sense? Simply because its different than yours? Is that why there is the hostility? That's called close-mindedness, and you won't get many people listening to your points. Blah blah etc.
Allow me to summarize this argument as, "You laugh because I'm different, I laugh because you're all the same."
> I will, however, now close this thread and ban shii. Those who don't add to or benefit from this community have no good reason to be here.
That's a pretty insecure community they've got going there.
People from either side are still welcome to discuss things in this thread.
But they said it looks too confusing and full of clutter. Too bad people today are paying more attention to presentation than content and usability.
Though I sometimes miss "search" :(
waha please don't assign me banned status for my remark about lack of search.
>>26
Lack of Search? My Ass!
http://www.google.com/search?q=WAHa+site:wakaba.c3.cx/sup/
If Google isn't good enough, nothing is.
Actually, the lack of search is kind of intentional (and not only because I am lazy). The fact of the matter is, if I coded up a search engine, it would probably suck. Pretty much every board software has a horrible sucky search.
Much better to leave searching up to another tool - either Google (which might not be up-to-date, unfortunately) or some site searching tool (Since all the threads are just HTML files, you can use which ever in-site search engine you want. Hopefully you'll find one that doesn't suck.)
Of course, the problem is that most people are too lazy to install a search engine. But Google still works.
Also >>26 is assigned banned status for complaining about assigning banned statuses!
mnoGoSearch is decent. We used it on the old IIchan for a while, although it wasn't widely known. By now it's probably even better.
Great I'll try mnoGoSearch right now.
Also I voted negative rep to >>26 many times since I have high post count, so don't worry you don't have to ban. (Waha would listen to me since my register date is last year.)
I have trouble with my animated gif avatar, can I not use 1.4MB avatars?

> But Google still works.
It would be nice if it ignored all the >>243 type of links and just cached full threads. Is it possible to restrict it like that?
Tsep search engine fails because it can't parse the html files that kahera makes properly. But I have to say it was easy to set up.
>>32
More often than not I have seen Google do both, full threads as well as individual posts and post ranges.
I need to remember to do this for the Next Update, then.
>Add rel=nofollow to those links.
make it optional thank you bye.
>Add rel=nofollow to those links.
also, make it rel="nofollow"
>>39
There is no good reason to make a search engine reference those internal links.
>>39
Could be edited out with about half-a-brain and 30 seconds of your time anyways.
Do tell.
I would think >>42 likes to spam google and get better chance of getting stumbled on. I can't think of another reason.
Just reviving this thread for some fun.
>>43
Only if I'm willing to learn a small amount of perl... ~.^
Could you finally leave the captchas enabled? Geez.
I'm wondering why a url limit hasn't been coded (only X many blocks of text starting with http:// or www; specified by admin).
The never were on in /sup/, because a lot of much less experienced people need to post here and I don't want to confuse anyone unduly.
Because a lot of legimate posts, mine included, contain a whole lot of links. Forcing people to split those over many posts would only be annoying. Also, many spammers post just one link.
how about prohibiting the same link, in the same post, repeated upwards of 5 times? I can't see any legitimate reason you'd need to post that.
>>58 They don't do that either - I personally like the "leave this blank" idea, but I worry about how many people would be stopped by it...
Right now, you can't post on this board with an empty password, and since the password is filled in by Javascript, that means you can only post with Javascript enabled. Not a perfect solution by any measure, but it'll do for now.
