How do I... (things from 4chan) (111, permasaged)

I recently (ie. today) set up my own wakaba imageboard and I was wondering how to do some things. Now, I'm not sure if these things are 4chan only or if they can be done in any wakaba, since I've only seen them in 4chan, but here's what I want to know.

  1. How do I make a post as an admin/mod (like when a mod posts in 4chan, it shows the name in purple instead of green)?
  2. How do I sticky posts?
  3. And how do I add word filters?

Thanks in advance!

>>78 I agree they aren't made for that, but the people who use them have decided to do that.

To the causal observer, they rather be able to look at funny image macros and porn while discussing things then with REAL discussion on a message board.

It's just the way things became.

Well, since I'm here I might as well put my opinion into this old-as-fuck thread.

First off, regarding OP.

# How do I make a post as an admin/mod (like when a mod posts in 4chan, it shows the name in purple instead of green)?

Stylesheets motherfucker, google 'em.

# How do I sticky posts?

Sticky posts are not really worth implementing, about 90% of the time (bullshit estimated statistic) they are just a re-statement of the rules. If your users don't at least skim over the guidelines, they shouldn't be posting in the first place.

However, this feature can be nice to have when a good epic thread comes along that users generally agree is epic (this is a nice feature for boards with less traffic.)

# And how do I add word filters?

This is mentioned way earlier in the thread.
Regarding whether word filters are useful or not, I would have to say that they can be, so long as they aren't being used to do things like force memes. Example: wordfilters used on common grammatical omissions from words (such as turning youre into you're.) Example 2: have words that are spammed turn into funny things (such as turning "DESU DESU DESU" into "I HAVE NOTHING TO CONTRIBUTE AND I AM A GIGANTIC FAGGOT.")

> Regarding moderation practices

Have specific bans times for offences, but warn that the mods are assholes. Have a nice spamlist and implement a report feature, tell users how it works and warn them that they will get permab& if they abuse.

Also, visible moderation is hilarious.

>Regarding discussion of permasage on certain users

While they can proxy past it, most newfags wouldnt be able to figure out one that is cookie-based, thus making it both funny and useful.

>FINALLY - regarding software

PHP - based boards lack security due to PHP and the type of programmers that follow
PERL - based imageboards work one fuckton of a lot better with databases, as well as being less exploitable

kusabaX > Serissa

I personally like the base wakaba, although I find it only lacking of multi-board moderation.

573chan's wakaba mod is nice.

> Conclusion

People on messageboards argue too much:

  • Glance over the rules
  • Fap/Draw/Save/Chat
  • Don't be butthurt over trolls (cmo'n, it's not like they know your name or anything)
  • Learn when to sage
  • Stop your fucking complaining
  • Tolerate gore
  • LRN 2 WEB 1.0 (LOL IRC)

... Goodnight internet!
... Thank you internet!
... Fuck you internet.
... Fuck you!
