Converting posts beginning with wide space to Monafont (12)

Let's discuss this feature.

Basically, if your post begins with a wide space commonly used in Japanese text art, all of the text that follows is converted to show up in text art font, such as Monafont.

Information about this wide space: http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/3000/index.htm

I've tried implementing this feature on my text board but I've ran into some problems, such as:

  1. You can't remove all leading whitespace from the post because this method requires leading whitespace.
  2. Not all SJIS text art begins with wide spaces.

Notwithstanding these issues, it still has these advantages:

  1. The majority of SJIS text art DOES begin with wide spaces.
  2. Posting of SJIS art with minimum required effort from the user.

However, I've also thought of another idea that solves the two aforementioned problems. Instead of activating SJIS art font with a wide space, activate it with unique symbols. For example, using @@ at the beginning of the post triggers the effect.

  1. Using unique non-whitespace symbols solves the issue of being allowed to remove all leading whitespace.
  2. It also solves the problem of text art that doesn't begin with wide space.
  3. It also maintains the advantage of allowing the user to post SJIS art with minimum required effort.

Obviously, using a unique symbol requires more effort than using no symbol at all, other than the art itself. I'm my opinion this is a very small sacrifice to make in exchange to being able to trigger the font conversion for anything, whether it starts with wide space or not.

Even so, I'm still a little on the fence about these. What do you guys think about the possibilities?

Add a dropdown for post formatting, with "Text Art" as an option. What's so hard about that?

Think of how many times you have to click before you can select "text art" on Kareha.

But that's not the point of this topic. The point is for easy and/or intuitive markup. As opposed to other markup like BB Code tags, not opposed to dropdown menus (not markup).

I think web designers are entitled to options. In this case, the option whether to use a markup solution or a dropdown box or a checkbox or a combination of these or something else.

In this thread I wish to discuss markup solutions. So I hope we can stay on topic.

Three clicks, versus digging out charmap and trying to put a wide space in front of every line (and also hoping you don't screw up the alignment of everything in doing so, because the input box sure isn't in Mona font)

Dropdown is clearly easier and more intuitive, as you put it. Why does this need special markup, anyway?

Digging out charmap? You seriously don't know what you're talking about here. You completely do not understand what is being proposed and how it works.

Why are you so determined to continue suggesting non-markup solutions? Do you really think only drop-down is the solution? You really cannot comprehend that there are other solutions other than your own? Are you really that immature?

Three clicks on Kareha vs 0 clicks with wide space auto covert.

The majority of SJIS art ALREADY starts with a wide space, therefore, you'd only need to copy paste it and hit 'reply' without any extra effort.

The proposed implementation will not remove the first wide space of the post, it will merely use it to trigger SJIS font for the entire post.

The only implementation I know of that requires you to actually put a wide space at the beginning of each line is here http://waro.su/bbs.pl
Doing that would require too much effort because the amount of SJIS art that actually starts with wide spaces from beginning to end are a small number.

And let us not forget the second proposal for unique symbols instead. Did you even read >>1? I have the feeling you only read the subject line and started posting in haste. Please don't do that.

Name-calling. How nice.

Forcing text art mode to be an all or nothing thing makes it impossible to put text art and normal text together in the same post without the normal text looking like shit.
