I have decided to start a new thread about this.
Please refer to http://wakaba.c3.cx/soc/kareha.pl/1098713558/10- for now.
As soon as I have found a place to upload the most recent version, I will post the URL here.
So far the changes from 0.2 I made:
You can always get your own 100webspace account and get to swear at them when they go down or act stupid!
I guess, but reason I am not doing is this is also because I want to wait for a response by the original author and whether he's okay with my modifications.
A little teaser, since I am fascinated by this thing:
http://kao.wakachan.net/r/res/834.html
Ultimative power for the Japanese legasthenics!
I heartily endorse this update. Posted to my site: http://www.bluethree.us/futaba.zip
Thanks, very nice.
If anyone has any suggestions considering this thing, feel free to post them here.
I dunno, I like to keep an offline version for use.
But this is cool, too.
Did you change anything? You could change the name for /g/:
http://wakaba.c3.cx/soc/kareha.pl/1098713558/23
i fixed some mistranslations, e.g.
Electric Waves-->Denpa (it's a type of music)
ASCII-->SJIS art
Yaoi - Burly-->Bears (Gay) (the word yaoi isn't in the title)
:%s/Reverse World/Flip Side/g
also I standardized the character encoding
> ASCII-->SJIS art
I'll change that back.
:)

shift_JISにasciiコードが包含しているので下記のアスキーアートが掲載出来ます。

i am sorry but link for TV board should be http://dat.2chan.net/17/futaba.htm
not http://up.2chan.net/r/futaba.htm
I have a hard time figuring out the purpose of the "Moe" board on Futaba:
http://img.2chan.net/moejp/futaba.htm
避難所 translates to "Refuge", so I assume it's some kind of random/last resort board. This would accord with the constant posts of troll shit and totally senseless floods mixed with the occasional pedo porn.
So, I've been wanting to get a proper name for this board for the "Futaba Channel - English Nagivator" but couldn't think of anything concise - "Random" sounds to general and generic.
Anyone have any better ideas / insights?
(Coincidentally, I don't know if this would mean to rearrange the name of http://dat.2chan.net/19/futaba.htm (避難所二) accordingly - since the name suggests a 2D version of the former one but the content is much more sane - as far as I can see)
I'd rather have a term that was a little bit more self-explanatory. Otherwise I think I would have to note it down on the main page but I want to keep the notes part as minimal as can be.
>>23
/Refuge/ appeared when several boards crashed. I don't recall them all but there were some oekaki, real life board(s) and 2D board(s).
Then the original boards when back up, but meanwhile /refuge/ was filled with stuff. Apparently, the 2chan owners didn't want to just nuke the /refuge/ board and left it in. They merely separated real life from 2D.
(This is what I deduced from observation, I may be wrong on the details.)
Futaba Channel English Navigator 0.45 is released!
Thanks to Lolocaust for keeping this project alive and up-to-date. At his request, there are now two methods for using this Navigator:
1: Download it from here and run it from your own hard drive (the method I prefer, just to keep my bandwidth down):
http://www.bluethree.us/Futaba%20Channel%20English%20Navigator%200.45.zip
2: Run it online from here:
http://www.bluethree.us/futaba/LoadThisPage.html
A couple new boards, various fixes, all the usual stuff. The best way to learn about the wackyness that is Futaba Channel (well, apart from learning Japanese).
Two notes:
1) You can make LoadThisPage.html the default index.html for http://www.bluethree.us/futaba/ either by .htaccess or by simply renaming LoadThisPage.html to index.html
2) The encoding on /bbsindex.htm got fucked. It should be set to UTF-8 instead of ISO-8859-1. Likewise, the encoding for /bbsmenuenglish.htm should Shift_JIS instead of ISO-8859-1
Thanks for updating!
I think this is what you'd want in .htaccess:
DirectoryIndex LoadThisPage.html index.html
<Files bbsindex.htm>
AddCharset utf8 .htm
</Files>
<Files bbsmenuenglish.htm>
AddCharset Shift_JIS .htm
</Files>
Maybe it should be "utf-8" instead of "utf8", I forget. Most browsers will probably accept both.
Big structural changes to the code, although it looks identical. The files are in pure Shift-JIS format now for maximum compatibility with Futaba.
WAHa helped me out on this. It would have been a piece of cake, BUT... my server automatically formats all pages to ISO-8859-1, no matter what format they really are, and it rudely ignores both charset settings in the meta section and any .htaccess files. The solution was found when WAHa suggested a change in filename extention to .html.sjis instead of plain .html. Abracadabra, it worked.
Also, the new easier to remember address is:
http://www.bluethree.us/futaba
Now, let's 20 million GET! ... oh wait, we westerners can't post. Shit.
A quick PS: For anybody who wants to download the latest version of the navigator, you can get it in .zip format at this link: xttp://www.bluethree.us/futaba.zip
Version 0.46 is up, both for download from www.bluethree.us/futaba.zip and for viewing directly from www.bluethree.us/futaba
Change: Another /b/ added. Thanks to Lolocaust for the update. Converted to pure S-JIS and .html.sjis extensions for compatibility with my retarded server by yours truly.
For the story about the three Futaba /b/s, see http://wakaba.c3.cx/soc/kareha.pl/1117571412
age because I sent Ordinary K!3GqYIJ3Obs an updated version sometime ago and today again and want to know what's up
If he vanishes, I'll host it.
What? I've got bandwidth to burn.
I'm not dead! I had some serious hardware problems (hard drive crash, etc.) and I finally got them all ironed out. Futaba English Navigator 0.47 is up at http://www.bluethree.us/futaba and you can also download the package at http://www.bluethree.us/futaba.zip
Oh hi!
These two lines in the menu:
<strike><a href="http://may.2chan.net/b/futaba.htm">2D - Flip Side (Nijiura) - may</a><br></strike>
<a href="http://may.2chan.net/b_/futaba.htm">2D - Flip Side (Nijiura) - may</a><br>
can now be replaced with:
<a href="http://may.2chan.net/b/futaba.htm">2D - Flip Side (Nijiura) - may</a><br>
The may link is fixed now, version bumped to 0.47a. Same URL.
Some URL changes, don't know how permanent these will be...

They also seem to have been having a little problem with shitflooders (at least on the major nijiuara board) for the last few days. Maybe that's what the URL changes are for.
Is Futaba Channel close to introducing vericodes?
Haha - I can see it now, 2chan using a vericode which would be a difficult kanji. :) It would block a lot of Toshiakies too...
Numbers would be good for a semi-universal vericode, but that's only ten characters...
I was meaning to add kana to the vericode system, but I never got around to it...
Ever since word processors started becoming popular in Japan, some young people have reported difficulty handwriting kanji correctly. I believe it; I can recognize about 150 kanji upon viewing them, but I'd never be able to write them from memory.
Updates made to Futaba English Navigator, 0.47b posted.
http://www.bluethree.us/futaba
>>43
That's how China's QQ instant messaging blocks foreigners... luckily, once you know the proper (and simple) way of handwriting kanji, you can use a CJK pen software and enter them in.
FUTABA CHANNEL ENGLISH NAVIGATOR 0.49 RELEASE!
There are now no fewer than 5, FIVE, V, Nijiura boards on Futaba! Thanks to Lolocaust for keeping the English Navigator up to date. As always, the web portal to the Navigator is:
http://www.bluethree.us/futaba/
And if you want to download the source for yourself in handy .zip format, it's always here:
>>53
Uh... nope. It's just the Selfmade Artwork (二次元実況) with an added 裏 (which is the suffix kanji for the flipside/nijiura boards).
Sorry. What I meant was, on http://www.bluethree.us/futaba/ it links to 2D - Live Discussion - Flipside instead.
Futaba Channel English Navigator Version Up!
The above-mentioned link error is fixed, thanks to Lolocaust. As always, point your browser here:
http://www.bluethree.us/futaba/
And if for some insane reason, you just want the html files, they're downloadable at:
Moe, as in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mo%C3%A9 ?
lol to the max
Die in a fire. All of you.
Who's the guy that can be seen in so many threads of the Speed Grapher board http://dat.2chan.net/23/futaba.htm ? He's always shopped.Is he some guy who made posts that became legendary ?
Is that Sugita? The Cosplay board might be able to tell.
Yeah, he's Mageres. That's a silly romanization of "majiresu", which as far as I can tell means responding seriously to silly posts and trolls.
Why they named this guy that and post him everywhere all the time, I do not know.
Due to circumstances beyond my control, bluethree.us is now hosted on godaddy. The address for the Futaba English Navigator is still the same, but there are some annoying hosting ads that you can avoid by running Adblock Plus on Firefox. Also, at least for now, you may need to manually select Shift-JIS as the character encoding style for Japanese characters to show up correctly in the menu, etc. If I ever feel like updating the thing, I'll see about converting it to UTF-8 instead. That's all for now.
In the css, add iframe { display:none; }
to remove the ad. Godaddy says nothing in their TOS, to my knowledge, that has anything against removing the ad.
>>68
I could provide decent hosting for it if you want. Godaddy is crap.
Good news, everyone! Futaba Channel English Navigator 0.50 has gone live!
http://www.bluethree.us/futaba/
Tons of updates this time around, mostly involving the removal of dead boards. Also, it's all in UTF-8 now. Thanks to everybody who has contributed to this project in the past, present and future.
And now, two quick responses to above posts:
>>69
Sadly, you're wrong:
http://help.godaddy.com/article.php?article_id=950&topic_id=243
It's a violation. But if you run Adblock Plus on Firefox, you'll never see the hosting ads.
>>70
If it's free and there are no hosting ads, I'm interested.
>>74
hiding the ads with css does not remove them, it just makes them harder to see. they don't say you can't do that.
>>76
That's the same sort of stupid, contrived, and blatantly false non-argument as "if you delete the files in 24 hours it's not piracy".
I'm in the process of getting everything switched to the new server, it may be down for a few hours, depending on the propagation rate of your ISP.
All the files have been uploaded to the new server. I'd like to thank >>70 for the domain space. I'm on my laptop right now, and it had an older copy of the site on the hard drive, so the Navigator will be a little out of whack until I get back home to the tower and re-upload the latest files (that will be later tonight).
The restoration of data is complete, and as a bonus, I've done more updates, including removing more dead boards and adding a brief introduction to Futaba and its many boards. Version 0.51, only two days after 0.50!
\(^o^)/ Success! Sort of.
$ host bluethree.us
bluethree.us has address 68.178.232.100
$ host www.bluethree.us
www.bluethree.us has address 64.22.96.24
Maybe my dns servers just being silly?
oh, and: http://cgi.2chan.net/b/futaba.htm
I was fiddling around in godaddy earlier this evening, trying to fix that. I had already changed the www and ftp hosts to 64.22.96.24, leaving "@"at 68.178.232.100 (godaddy's webhosting IP). I've now changed "@"to 64.22.96.24, meaning IN THEORY that after all the dns servers propogate, all attempts to hit bluethree.us go to 64.22.96.24. Maybe.
I forgot to say thanks for the link to the SIXTH known Nijiura board! I'll be adding that shortly.
Version 0.52 is up. Added new board "Josou", and added link for resurrected board "Yaoi".
Version 0.53: NEW PAGES: Bicycles, Nijiura ID, Narikiri, Politics, Economics, Korean Economics. Dead pages purged. More accurate translations of board names.
Oh wow, a bicycle board?
I can't remember a time I've looked at Futaba /b/ where I haven't seen a bicycle thread somewhere... it's high time they got a board for it!
(Not that I minded them at all, it merely seemed like something that's long overdue.)
Korean Economics?
WTF?
0.54: NEW AND/OR RETURNING BOARDS: Mahjong, Trouble Consultation, Net Characters, Military and Military - Flipside, and Touhou. Dead text boards: Lounge, Anime. And now there are only two text boards left: ASCII Art and Shopping. The textboards are just spam traps anyway, and 2ch is far more popular for posting text anyway.
二次元裏(dec) : http://dec.2chan.net/b/futaba.htm
What's with the "del" links and that akuhist.txt file? Are they outsourcing board moderation to the general public?
posting in a notable thread
