How does one prevent boring people from using your imageboard without frightening off worthwhile endusers?

2 Name: Anonymous : 2011-07-10 08:57 ID:mM0RdNF7 [Del]

Simple: Don't.

Banning them would frighten your users.

worthwhile endusers don't exist on imageboards

WTF is an ``enduser"? Obviously, it's someone who enduses, but WTF does that mean?

If you have boring users, then your website is boring.

The end user is the person that uses the product.

>>1 didn't say end user". He said enduser".

Does it actually matter?

Yes, it does. If you communicate poorly, people will misunderstand you, specially if you choose to ignore the most basic principles of how words are constructed in English.

I have, in the past, been called by others on this board and elsewhere, a 'grammar nazi'.  I do make an effort to correct other's spelling and punctuation mistakes, however I never do it with the intention of shaming the language offender over such a trivial matter.  My aim is only to assist fellow members of this online community in perfecting their communication skills.  Many of you have gone to great length to improve yourselves in this respect and I feel that I can assist you further by making these little corrections.  Unfortunately many people are insulted by this, maybe they feel I am making light of their deficiencies or maybe they have had unpleasant language instructors in the past, I don't know.  Please be assured that I have no negative intent in reminding you about things like "i before e except after c", I only hope for it to benefit you.  Such strong anger comes back at me for this sometimes, I don't do this for thanks, but the hatred is such a surprise.  Regardless of if you thanked me or not, your welcome.

Why do posts like these always have bad grammar?

>>5
I think this is probably the best answer. It sounds negative, but it means that you just have to change the site, instead of trying to change the users directly (which is impossible).

12 Post deleted by user.

Quality users only go where there are other quality users.

You can't get the ball rolling if you're not a quality administrator to begin with.

because that was the joke

OK, but say you have a nice collection of excellent users, but then boring people start showing up?

And if you have boring users, your site will become boring.
How do you quit this vicious circle?

Make a new site.

That's effective but too extreme. I've thought about deleting everything and starting over again.

That works too.

If the community is strong, the community's auto-immune system will shun them every time they shitpost.

Of course, this is about people shitposting. Being boring is not really shitposting. Who decides if something is boring?

for the most part, boring people are the ones who think that imageboards are super serious and important and the people who throw around the occasional joke are "shitposters"

Yes, that's why you have to know where to put the line between quality post and shitposting. Joking around is good until it turns dumb, and being too anal about quality becomes boring.
