it is a common misconception that 4chan.org/4chan.net is the oldest of the english language *chan sites. the truth of the matter is that chan.org predates 4chan by more than a year.

Actually, he's quite right, chan.org was registered in 1995 and was last updated in 2002. I don't think most people would consider it a *chan in the vernacular sense, though.

Or maybe he meant 1chan.net, which however (according to the whois records) predates 4chan by only three months.

4chan first existed at 4chan.net which has existed since at least October 2003. The domain was changed to 4chan.org when GoDaddy fucked moot over.
