Poole's company, Canvas Networks, Inc. just got $625,000 in start-up funding from an unknown source, according to an SEC filing posted here. It's unclear exactly what Canvas Networks will be making, though Poole gave a hint in an interview with the Times' Nick Bilton last month:

I'm working on a new project to reimagine what an image board should be today using the current technologies available... our code is a decade old, the foundation is really rickety and the layout is old. So imagine if you were to start 4chan today, what would it look like, how would it work with a modern browser. It's kind of like a reboot, but it will be something separate to 4chan.

Oh boy, more shit!

Jokes aside, a large problem with 4chan has always been that its boards were way too fucking big. Any attempt to split things up a little can't be too bad. Who knows, maybe it will make some of the dipshits forget about imageboards!

This whole idea reeks of web 2.0, though.

It feels like years since the last time there was anything newsworthy to "the study of modern imageboard culture" like this.

As far as web 2.0 crap, there WAS the April fool's joke this year with the 4chan/facebook connectivity. They could certainly make the interface slick as fuck with enough money. Maybe have everything be updated live so you don't have to hammer F5. Reply to a post without having to scroll all they way up. It will be interesting to see if the new project retains anonymous/tripcode posting or if they provide options for permanent user accounts.

If he's getting investments, that means someone is expecting some kind of monetization to happen. Presumably beyond the ad banners currently on the site.

If I understand correctly, Moot only did that one because he was pissed about all the [certain website] spam so he installed that software to get back at the spammer.

He didn't install it, it is maintained by someone else, moot just added it to 4chan's domain to troll the owner of that [certain website] since he keeps spamming the heck out of 4chan.

Funny enogh, the domain of that website now redirects to tiny.4chan.org
