YKK Forum

Reappearing as mysteriously as it went.

And boy, how I prefer this forum to a hacked-up phpBB!

^_^

Well, it's always nice to have backups.. so did the site go down while restoring the forums?

I guess it's possible this forum went down and then came back up again as a result of something unrelated to ykk.misago.org. ?
But it sure would be odd!
Then again it's even more od if someone fixed it and then didn't post any kind of explanation, or even a "hello, it's back."

YKK itself is mysterious, so it is expectable that ykk.misago.org to be the same.

Hello,

I worry this whole thing will crash again. Unless the Owner makes some sort of contact with the Elves, we need to assume that this will happen again. Is it possible to get some sort of mailing address for Owner via the ISP that hosts this site? I understand the Owner will not reply to e-mail. Perhaps it is time to pass this whole thing along to the Elves. Transfering a lot of the old threads will give us a lot of material. I mostly lurked before as most topics had already been very well discussed. That said, I want to thank the original owner of this site for keeping it up as long as he has, and for all the work he has done.

(sigh) very relieved to see this forum again. How else would I find the same kind of YKK community to share thoughts with?

Should there be a backup of this forum or another site that we can head to if trouble comes up again?

If this happens again a bunch of us who came here have also set up home over at http://pander.us/ykk/index.php. Some people like the place just fine and other people don't really care for it. For the most part it's a nice chunk of the same group of people who come on here. There's a good discussion of the latest chapter over on cafealpha.org and some other interesting topics going on there. If we lose the forum again you have that option of going to the forum run by dDave.

Aaah, it's good to have this place back. I absolutely detest registration-required forums, and phpBB and its ilk are just horrible overall, user-interface-wise. Of course, I've got some pretty strong opinions on these matters, after spending some time implementing my own board scripts based on the 2ch style, which is immensely popular in Japan. This board isn't quite perfect (I want completely optional names, and the ability to not bump threads, and also an overview of all new posts on a single page), but it's so leagues beyond phpBB.

Then I got this message when trying to open pander.us/ykk :

Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

Maybe people are just envious of YKK community... Mysterious connection problem.

Howdy,

The problem seems to have fixed itself.

Best,

it would be sad if this little community broke up into little pieces for lack of a home. i hope this place stays stable in the future

Anyone have any idea what this forum is? Been looking for something like it for a long time.

PhpBB is cumbersome, bloated and my forums is full of damn spam bots try to get in (I got it so I have to authorize people since I get 2-3 bots every few days and no one else), would like find a similar board to this so the bots don't recognize it as a forums.

That and I like the look & feel of this one.

its custom written by the site owner. Over on the http://ykk.misago.org/News page, scroll down to [2003/3/11] he talks about it.

I write my own board software, and it's not the same, but it's similarly minimalist: http://wakaba.c3.cx/

Hmm guess I might have find my old php & perl notes and my old tech book if a I can and make my own.

I so do hate coding (lol not that good at it ether) but some time you just got to do things your self.
