YKK Forum

What are your favorite manga/comics?

Since this topic hasn’t come up around here (similar questions have merely been about series similar to YKK), it’s probably about time to bring it up, especially since YKK’s audience being a lot older than the typical manga crowd should make for more interesting lists. Besides, this board really seems like it would benefit from being more of a community board than purely discussion of YKK (just my opinion).

Here are some of my favorites:

Manga:
20th Century Boys (but I haven’t felt like following it recently since it has gone down the proverbial drain in the later volumes)
Angel Densetsu
Berserk
D-ash
Death Note (early volumes only. From the corporate arc on, this one has been on the decline)
Eagle
Eden (and Endo Hiroki’s short stories)
Love Roma
Monster
Planetes
Pluto
Real
Shadow Star
Touch
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou (obviously...)
Yotsuba&

I also like Iou Kuroda and Naoki Yamamoto’s works, and follow most of Mangascreener’s projects. http://mangascreener.com/

I’m much less familiar with the world of general comics though. I’m not a fan of the whole “superhero” and “dark brooding anti-hero” things that American comics seem obsessed with (there are exceptions of course. I liked Watchmen a lot, and still keep up with Berserk), but the sheer number and percentage of these kinds of stories (it seems like this is almost all that bookstores carry), and the commoditization of characters in Marvel/DC stuff, make it difficult to find new series to read, so aside from newspaper comics I hardly ever read any.

Comics:
Calvin and Hobbes
Fox Trot
Zits
Blankets (the only non-newspaper one among them)

Of course, these are just the latest/current ones...

Uh.. Im actually one of the younger YKK readers that truly enjoy YKK.. Im 16. ^_^ Anyway, here's my list.

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou
Position
Sing 'Yesterday' For Me
Aqua
Aria
Air Gear

Really, I haven't read much manga lately.. And as you can see in my list, mostly are 'in the blue' manga. The only youth manga that I read is 'Air Gear', maybe in my peaceful-self, still lives that burning teen spirit. But that's enough for me, usually I only need a little of this part.

Oh.. Do check out these mangas, these are my top selections. (I only have little time for manga, so I only read the ones that are real good and can give me some impression)Perhaps some of you may get interested in em.
