Not trying to be difficult, but . . .

. . . any chance of an update in the near future?

An update would be nice.

Even if it's just to say "My files are wacky and I'm quite behind on them" any word would be great. I just want to know he's still alive and kicking.

Please, oh beloved Translator?

Sunday, March 13, 2005

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't dn doing this all by himself? After spending a lot of time at AnimeWaves forum, it occurred to me that perhaps what we ought to do is form a scanlation *group* to help him out. Clearly kGo and dDave are excellent translators, all we need are scanners, editors and checkers.

Okay, that's a lot of posts to fill, but what do you all think?

Can be done... if the man of the house would, but show up... <_<

Howdy,

I like to translate. Hate to scan. Don't mind editing.

Best,

Dave

I don't mind scanning, can't translate, like to edit and encode. I'll be glad to help however I can.

I wouldn't mind scanning, editing or checking! I like checking things. ^_^ Also, depending on how distribution works, I wouldn't mind helping with that, too.

Yes, it has been so long. I am very worried that something has happened to nield ... But, even if it all ended and he just didn't have time to do anymore, I am so glad he has shared with us what he has. YKK is one of those stories that has affected my life in profound ways. Thanks for your contribution.

:o this idea of doing it ourselves has been around for a while now iirc. Dont think much was done bout it except for that 1 chapter :P

So can someone provide the scans first?

- altf4
Tuesday, March 15, 2005

I have webspace that is just sitting around we can use as a central processing location. Maybe, we can do some of the back chapters for Neild and have him review the work. It would take the pressure off of him.

- Steven Robinson
Tuesday, March 15, 2005

Hmm so where's the actual problem?
Is it the raws? Because it seems there
are enough ppl willing to translate...
And editors are never the problem ^_^

Howdy,

Raws.

Okay, let's say I subscribe to Afternoon next month. What do we do about back issues?

- Carn
Tuesday, March 15, 2005

Just curious, what are the titles of the missing chapters. Looking at the raam newsgroup I see withdrawal symptoms are setting in all over the net.

- C_P
Tuesday, March 15, 2005

What's so bad about scanning?
Hell, send the the issues and I'LL scan them.
AND THEN SEND THEM BACK.

I'll be buying the tankouban but I don't feel like buying the iriginal publications.

- The GZeus
Tuesday, March 15, 2005

*nods* I don't mind scanning either. As of now, I also don't mind subscribing to get the latest issues..but am just wondering about the back issues. Do we wait for a tankoban? ^_^

- carn
Tuesday, March 15, 2005

I thought there were a few chapters in the last tankoban which haven't been translated.. or did Neil already do those?
I really should hurry up and buy it!

- Brad
Tuesday, March 15, 2005

Oh, I see now that vol 12 goes up to 120.

- Brad
Tuesday, March 15, 2005

Yes I do believe that the idea of a scanlation group has been around for a while, however due to several problems it's never risen off the ground. I think we do have a translator, but he doesn't like to scan (dDave) and we got someone who was willing to scan (his/her name escapes me at the moment) but no raws, and someone who had raws but didn't want or couldn't send them over to the scanner person. I'll see if I can set up a chatroom if anyone wants to coordinate this idea further. Also we would need Neil to put the final product up on the website if we manage to get a scanlation group going

Howdy,

Things are moving. Editor and checker, step forward and email me.

Even if Neil comes out of the woodwork, he won't host because he likes doing his own thing without help. It's not 100% neccesary, but it would be nice if someone could host.

Best,

Dave

I'm useless at Japanese and I don't have any good hosting places however if dDave doesn't have the time to put the translations onto the actual manga I'd be willing to put my photoshop skills to use, though someone would have to translate and send me the raws, I guess that's not the best solution but if noone else is willing to do it I will.

It seems like we have people to fill all the needed functions except for a webspace to put up the files for DL. I wish I had a website with which to help, but I can edit and/or proof QC. There are the odd members here that have YKK fansites--do any of you have room or bandwidth to spare?

I don't know how much bandwidth it takes, so I'm probably speculating uselessly. And on the behalf others, too. Sorry. Anyway, I hope someone knows of some webspace and we can get off the ground.

dn, I hope all this talk doesn't offend you--we only want to help you in troubled times.

dewa,

I can host bittorrent seeds, and maybe some web space too.

Whatever decision you guys come up with I'd be more than happy to put up a link to the end result on my little site. Also, just a suggestion for those of you with the raws who do not wish to send them off for a small amount of money you can get a 256mb thumb drive. If it's a lack of a scanner you can take that thumb drive and your raws to a Kinko's and scan them there. They should have scanners there but it's best to check with them first. This way the raws can be scanned without having to send them to someone else to do it. This way we can have more people scanning back issues of the raws to send to the people willing to translate them. Heh, the things you think of when you're ready to collapse at whatever o'clock in the morning.

Howdy,

Work is in progress.

By the way, the new copy of Afternoon just arrived at Kinokunia. If someone wants to pick it up and provide raws, please email me.

Dave

Maybe I should try and find a place to get Afternoon and then buy a scanner :)

I feel like I should be doing something to help!

For hosting, I've noticed that Manga Reactor has up through v10 hosted there, so I am sure that if you all do get vol 11 onward done, you could send them there for hosting if nothing else.

As for me, I usually don't hang around Forums much, but if you need help with this in any way, I can see what I can do, be it scanning, editing, or otherwise. Just can't translate, at least, not yet. So if there's anything I can do, just shoot me an email and I'll get on it.

I know I really would like to see translation work on YKK continue, one way or another.

I have 45 gigs per month webspace I can contribute. I'm currently sinking it into an ABe Yoshitoshi image board at shii.oppresstheweak.com/hr/

We got 122 scanned. dDave will have them up soon.

I do not have pages for 123 and 124. Martial Stax is looking through his books to see if they are there. If he can not find the issues, we will send out a request for them.

I have chapters 123 and 125, I believe. I don't have 124 or 126. Loran, I can mail you what I have, but someone else will have to supply the others.

Argh. Sorry, I got those backwards. I have 124 and 126. I do not have 123, 125 and 127. I'll mail those two to Loran tomorrow. Oh, wait, it's tomorrow already. Okay, I'll mail them later today.

I have two domains available. One is my personal one, viciousbunny.net, and the other is VerdiCries.org, which is currently lying fallow because I was going to use it for a web comic I never started.

Lets use VerdiCries for this project, if you like. If the scanner, the editor and the translator want to email me, I can provide ftp and site access accounts. [email protected]

Now, is there a pre-done applet that manages the pages or do you have to html the links in each one?

- Steven Robinson
Friday, March 25, 2005

To marialstax:
Send whatever you can. I will send the scans to dDave. Later, we can bug the other forum folks for the missing episodes.

Steven:
dDave seems to have the situation under control for the moment. Contact him about any possible relocation.

You guys still need webspace? Looks like my company I go with just upgrade all acounts 2 gig of space, and it has 5 gig of bandwith a day. And mine is just sitting there, got forums, and few small sites on it but never got around to using it much.

If you guy want I can setup a ****.gentlerainofserenity.com or ****.shadonwcontinuum.com.
And ftp accounts for you guys.

Though they have now a 32,500 requests per hour limitation...I doute we'll break that.
