Encouraging Increased Quality (12)

I have encountered many image boards in which the moderation policy is to discourage "bad" posting by eliminating bad posts and/or the offending poster.
Does anyone have experience with the opposite policy? Does anyone anywhere use a method of promoting "good" content?

I think the community's attitude towards good posts should be enough encouragement. But that's probably just me.

Make boards where the point of the board is to create new things maybe?
Create a culture were the posting things that have been posted before is looked down upon.

Positive reinforcement is an effective tool, but often isn't consistent enough to soothe some eager posters.

Flaming or removing "poor" posts discourages creators of posts with potential, unless your userbase works best under harsh conditions.

Many reposts have value.

Great idea, perhaps you could put something in place, lets call it a "robot", that will automatically detect if something has been posted before and then punishes the user for it, perhaps a short ban that will increase in time every time the person posts something unoriginal. I really think we're on to something here. Any ideas for names for this system?

Reminds me of this old /b/ copypasta:

> I've figured out a simple means to reduce the amount of copy pasta on /b/. Just like 4chan scans for duplicate images, it can also scan for duplicated text. If you try to submit a post that contains 98% of the same text as some other post, then it can reject your post as copy pasta. This will force stupid 4channers to be more original.

Oh, but if only this were true! I'm sure such a board would be a fantastic place to hang out, not full of misogynistic whining like some other boards,

Why not a rating system or a upvote system like reddit has?

Because that's what reddit has. Seriously, just look at reddit and you'll see why that's a bad idea.

Something awful has a rating system for it's threads.

I consider "sage" a rating system. I know it's controversial but I like to think the front page of a board should be the current cream of the crop, and only good threads should be bumped (or at least bad threads with good content). By "opting out of opting out" of bumping you're basically saying, "Hey people should see this!" by bumping it back to the front of the board.
