Someone posted a thread on /g/ asking if it were possible to code an imageboard for Proboards and Invisionfree message boards. Could this be possible?

Of course. Anything is possible. Whether it's stupid is another manner, and since it's /g/ you're talking about, yes, it's stupid.

Why would you want to do that?

IB4F is proof of such a concept. I tend to shy away from services like that though. Sure it's a neat idea, but most of the sites that are created from that kind of service wind up being inactive because people can just make a site and either think they'll magically get activity, or they'll spam other sites trying to get activity.

I don't like the idea of being able to know nothing being a web admin and using a "board creator" so you can run a text board and think you're cool for using a "board creator". I'd understand if they had to get a freehost and install the scripts themselves because that requires more skill and time then clicking "MAEK KOOL IMAGEBOARD!!!"

I was mainly asking about if it's possible to have an imageboard included on a forum such as ProBoards, InvisionFree, or even forum software such as SMF.

Yes it is possible if you code it yourself and if these services allow you to modify the code/use custom extensions/whatever. However, the idea is tremendously stupid in so many ways, first of all because you are mixing the simplicity of an imageboard with the complexity of such forum software, and secondly because it's completely pointless, amongst other things.

You'd only end up creating a horrible mess which noone would use. Save yourself the hassle and don't do it.

Funny, my board was hit with such spam a few weeks ago. It backfired on the spammers though, because the reactions from my community were hostile.
