Just wondering what you guys think about this topic, surely with "Project Chanology" and the such more people are coming into contact with the meme's and phrases used by many of the imageboard users. As of this would the par say "secret language" as some people refer to it should be used more in society compared to pre-protest.

Just wondering and thoughts on this.

Imageboards and how much they're actually effecting general society.

If you are not going to make the effort to clearly state your ideas, why should we make the effort to try and puzzle out what you are trying to say?

The internet is becoming more mainstream in reality. Imageboards (are rather, what people call chans) are becoming more mainstream on the internet. As such it seems inevitable that imageboards will become more mainstream in reality.

With regards to the "secret language" of chans, It might be following a similar tragetory to "leet" speak - first used by a subculture, then as the subculture grows in size and loses what sets it apart from the non-members, parts of it end up in common use, but most of it is used only mockingly.

Well, Some people understand it.
In short;

Your views and opinions on how *chans/Imageboards are effecting society. Predominently focusing on how chanspeak is leaking into society.

I think that OP was using Project Chanology as a their example of how imageboards are effecting the mainstream.

>>10

While each *Chan might have its own memes, there are also memes that spread throughout boards.

Honestly, it was inevitable that the imageboard culture would hit the mainstream. Just look at the amount of individuals frequenting the board.

What a load of shit.

Imageboards are a part of something - the internet, not exactly their own thing. As far as anyone outside of japan is concerned they are just anonymous forums, nothing more. Look at ebaums and MANY such other places - the same crap, just not image board software.
The only people who make a fuss about image boards as something special are losers with nothing else to hold onto. Theres no magic, just a japanese originating software you think makes posting on a forum "special"

Yeah. You have team 4chan to thank for that. I kind of wish that 4chan wasn't staffed by Something Awful goons, then perhaps things could have turned out better. Stickies and such stuff suck, and are absolute trash -- and to add insult to injury, Kusaba and its spin-offs perpetuate this crap even further. I used to think quite the opposite, however now, I take back everything I said about what WAHa argued with Mr VacBob years ago about how imageboards should be run and managed.

I'm feeling victimized here.
