ok. after 5 years, 4chan's /b/ has turned from shit into a complete and utterly disgusting pile of bullshit.
anybody else thinking the same thing? in b4 everybody thinks of that.
also, what if moot switches to either Wakaba or Kusaba?
> ok. after 5 years, 4chan's /b/ has turned from shit into a complete and utterly disgusting pile of bullshit.
> anybody else thinking the same thing? in b4 everybody thinks of that.
the quality hasn't changed, only the quantity has.
> also, what if moot switches to either Wakaba or Kusaba?
getting rid of stickies and other faggotry like that might make it a little better, but it won't solve 4chan's biggest problems.
>>2
I agree, /b/s quality do not change with time, it's just quantity and people groing out of diapers.
Changing software won't change anything.
>also, what if moot switches to either Wakaba or Kusaba?
After putting so much time and effort into modding the fuck out of Futaba, I highly dubt he will switch to anything else.
>>2
True, you can still find some very interesting discussion on /b/ if you lurk enough. I'd say that the amount of shit has increased dramatically, but the amount of good content has not kept up with the increase, so its proportion has decreased.
I mostly lurk /g/ now, it's more relevant to my interests.
>also, what if moot switches to either Wakaba or Kusaba?
I've heard this several times, never going to happen but if it did he would probably tweak it anyways.
>ok. after 5 years, 4chan's /b/ has turned from shit into a complete and utterly disgusting pile of bullshit.
>anybody else thinking the same thing? in b4 everybody thinks of that.
Sure. I agree, the quality hasn't decreased it just is pushed off by the posting ending in, LOL I luv a gurl wat should eye du bee? XD, count to x, and other fail threads that mostly fill up the board.
When something interesting actually does happen, it's by a stroke of luck that most of the sensible people are lurking at the same time and work towards contributing, rather than shitting all over the place as per the usual these days.
Also, I hate the people who complain of "cancer" all the time. Posting sage, gore, and (If they're persistent) cp. It just shits things up, and doesn't even make it any better. This "cancer" unfortuntaly plagues every corner of the Internet, and is the fundamental problem of every newsgroup, forum, imageboard, wiki, ect.
The only solution that presents itself is moderation, and judging by Moot's recent news posts, He seems to want to bring some actual moderation to the table. 4chan is a massive site and He only has so many mods on the site at any given time and it's led to shit, but it's not His fault at all, all He does is provide a way to use the site, the users are what make the board, and the site what it is.
tl;dr It's not Moot's fault it's most of the users.
>also, what if moot switches to either Wakaba or Kusaba?
Why? 4chan has a heavily modified proprietary script they call "Yotsuba" that is based off of futallaby. It took years of modifying, tweaking, and testing to get it to where it is today, changing software as stated earlier in this thread, won't do anything.
>getting rid of stickies and other faggotry like that might make it a little better, but it won't solve 4chan's biggest problems.
Agreed. Although I think stickies can be a good thing under certain circumstances and used temporarily, like when Moot announced that He was going to ban every crap thread He saw on /b/ and if people didn't read it and continued the shit, they got banned, and rightfully so.
It's going to require some real good thinking outside the box to pull /b/ out of the gutter of stupid and make it somewhat respectable again.
tl;dr It's a problem with a solution that won't happen overnight.
I LAUNCH BABIES PLEASE RAPE MY FACE
When 4chan recovers from it's DdoS, go back to /b/.
>>11
You can always tell when /b/ goes down, since without it the retards start leaking everywhere.
I'm not very clear on the whole situation but in the days leading up to this, AnonTalk spammed its adverts all over /b/; subsequently, /b/ retaliated by flooding AT, which didn't stop the spamming of /b/. Finally moot created a stickied thread where he indicated his surprise at the userbase being unable to stop AT from spamming /b/, which resulted in numerous how-to-DDoS-AT threads. AT then decided to DDoS 4chan (ALL the servers are presently down, not just /b/), and now I'm guessing 4chan has also started to DDoS AT.
/r/ing that all of these become an autob& on /b/.
>>12
LOLOLOLOL
Do people actually think AT is responsible for 4chan's DDoS??
BAHAHAHAH
I suppose AT also DDoS'ed 7chan, 420chan, and even the overchan, right?
It certainly wasn't RAIDchan, right?
You make me sick.
>>15
The post you replied to was from Monday. At that point it wasn't clear yet that raidchan was to blame. The poster was just repeating what most everyone was saying at the time, so I'd cut him some slack. I almost replied similarly to him last night myself, before I realized that.
Besides which, if that makes you sick, what about all the people who are saying it might be Gaia, ebaumsworld, or YTMND?
>>15,16
The guy who runs AT (``Sysop'') has been called "the biggest idiot in Sweden" and he DDoSed other sites around two years ago. We still don't have the whole story on raidchan, it seems they stepped in somehwat later. But we're pretty certain all the AT spam was his doing, as during the time when AT was getting DDoSed by anons, I saw a few posts by Sysop claiming responsibility; later on, the thread was deleted and he changed his stance to 'it was raidchan'. This happened around the time the alleged IRC logs pointing to raidchan were posted. I don't know which happened first, but this is rather suspicious.
The AT theory wouldn't explain why other chans were DDoSed, raidchan would.

gb2raidchan
The IRC logs are far too elaborate too not be authentic. Besides which, Kirtaner clearly thinks they are authentic, and I trust his judgment in this more than practically anyone's.

Nobody's even completely sure it is either of them, though it's clear now that raidchan played a role at some point. Some have even suggested that it the Scientologists doing it as a result of the Maxim article that just came out. Right now folks seem to be in an investigative, rather than retaliatory stage (though there has been some minor retaliation against pacifico).
4chan is back up and the DdoS seems to have stopped. (For the moment, hopefully for good.) and this thread started as discussing the state of /b/ - Random, so let's get back on topic.
...why is it that anytime I leave /b/ uncheaked either something awesome happens or it gets shut down... honestly? sighs
> ok. after 5 years, 4chan's /b/ has turned from shit into a complete and utterly disgusting pile of bullshit.
i hereby assert that this is 100% true. it was funny to go to 7chan's /b/ after giving up on weaksauce 4/b/. 7chan is only mediocre but at least it was legitimately fun to read and not a mess of spam and single-word posts.
Unfortunately, 7chan's /b/ seems to be going the same route. I agree it's much more tolerable than 4chan's /b/ being bombarded with at spam and retarded forced text memes like "You, sir, are and idiot :-)" but not by much when as of late I see posts and threads of random pictures and "I suck dicks" typed next to them.
> retarded forced text memes like "You, sir, are and idiot :-)"
That's actually from a spambot.
I know what it is. But they're obviously forcing them and trying to make /b/ so bad to even tolerate that AT thinks all or most of the people who lurk on /b/ will eventually start posting there instead, which will never happen since it's just a textBBS and has no pretty pictures.
4chan is anyway full of sociopaths who harass harmless random people by posting their full addresses.
I hope that any image and message boards which incite harassment will be taken down in whatever way, through DDOS attacks or lawsuits.
Would you like to be their victim?
Nice find, Soc anonymous.

The guys described in that article are not your typical /b/tard. Maybe years ago that was the case, but if you've been to /b/ recently you'll find that the majority of them don't have the skill to pull off epic trolls like that.
Would've been a decent article if not for their use of the L-word.
>>36
Moot's not really a "typical /b/tard" though. And part of trolling is trying to get an emotional response, which I'm not sure was his intent with Time magazine.
>>36
Yeah. I guess it makes sense to use a tripcode on this board.
It's mostly the little kiddies that do that. They think they're badasses and tough guys because they can remain anonymous. 4chan logs all IP info and keeps it for at least a month in case anything big goes down.
>>26 this is sort of related:
I was perma-banned from 7chan for spaming, when I never did.
so I hate them now.
>>41
So moot really is Christopher Poole? Any independent verification of this?
It seems to be far too convenient that his name has "pool" in it, and his initials are CP. It just screams out "fake name" to me, at least.
you, sir, are and idiot. :)
No, it's really my name.
ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH
ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH
Fuck th powah
You, Sir, are and idiot is an autoban now, found that out the hard way.
You sir should just shut the fuck up and stick a police baton up your ass!!!
You, sir, are and idiot :-)
Wow this somewhat decent thread derailed and failed....HARD

If you're not going to add anything substantial to this thread, either post and use the sage function or don't bother making a post at all.
Once again, requesting a permasage for this thread.
the problem as i see it is that the explosion of users over the last 5 years had diluted the content. the board moves so quickly that it's tough to take a little time to be witty or make a good shoop. tldr the increase in quantity = decrease in quality
kthxby rip /b/
So I type "you sir are and idiot" into google.
This thread now shows up as the 6th result, 2 years and a month after it was first made. Congrats, oldfags, you've preserved the cancer forever.
people actually use /b/?
