I noticed that among the major English-language imageboards, only 4chan supports nokoing. Why is this? Neither Wakaba nor Trevorchan understand it.

How can I stay in a thread after I post?
By entering "noko" into the [E-mail] field (by itself). After submission, you will be returned to the reply view of the thread you just posted in.
Source:4chan.org FAQ
This is because 4chan made up that feature. Futaba doesn't have it.
I haven't implemented anything like it because I don't think it's a good feature. Its only use is for mass uploads, and mass uploads isn't what image boards should be about in the first place.
Sometimes when I start a thread, I am interested in the replies. And when the board is busy, it can be a very hard task to find the thread I just posted without noko. On a slow board the thread will be right at the top of course, but I might still want to bookmark it to check for replies later.
"Noko" is also tremendously useful when chatting with someone in a thread. Of course imageboards should not be used for chat, but not even text boards like Kareha or Shiichan support it.
On a slow board it doesn't matter but I'm looking for a script for a board I hope will be popular.
2ch.ru which is based on wakaba has a switch: After posting go to ()Thread ()Board

the browser should never resubmit a POST request when you click the back button. the length of the post should not make any difference.
>>8 >>9
It would take a minor miracle for any image board to become as popular and fast-moving as 4chan's /b/.
And why on earth would you bookmark threads on /b/ when tabbed browsing is available? Leave browsing for the main window and open threads in tabs. Then just hit the back button if things move so fast your reply is off the front page. With the excellent plugin Tab Mix Plus you can even close Firefox and open it again with all the tabs still there.
So who wants to go tell Apple their browser is horribly broken?
>>12
1) Tabs violate the HIG. Notwithstanding,
2) That is exactly what I'm doing (except for the tabs part), and I want frames to remain at the thread I opened them for. I find myself clicking back almost always. I don't wanna see my own reply, I want to see other people's replies...
3) You need no extension for Firefox to restore tabs on startup. It can do it by itself since 1.4
4) On /b/ there is no need to do this, the 4chan extension includes a "Thread watcher" which solves this in a much more user-friendly manner.
>>13
It's not! How do you end up with double posts exactly?
>>10
AWESOME!! Xie xie
>>14
By clicking the Back button after making a post. I don't actually use Safari though; I assumed it was WebKit's doing but maybe it's a new "feature" in Shiira.
>>14
Do you use an older version of Safari? Or is it the interface that makes it a pain to open a new tab from a link?
4chan is the only board that needs it.
btw, what does noko stand for/mean?
If they wanted to model it after "sage", then the correct form would have been "nokotte".
>>20
Sorry, my English myght be bad; but
sageru = to move downwards?
sage = downways
nokoru = to stay in place
noko = in-place(?). Like how you tell a dog to remain motion-less. "Noko!"
In fact sage should be noko because it just leaves the post at the same place
"Nokotte" is Grannyspeak
Anyway what I mean is sage and noko are in what is called the "Imperativus" Latin verb-mode
Actually, my mistake, I thought for a second the base form of the verb was "sagu", but it isn't.
I have found it to be my favorite feature of 4chan. I hope more boards implement it.
>>12
indeed.
nobody else has noko because nobody else needs it. for /b/, it's an incredibly useful feature, even with tabbed browsing.
>>14
I use the thread watcher on the 4chan extension, but the problem is that on /b/ there's no way to distinguish between threads, because the poster and subject are both always blank. It should at least give you the number, I think.
now, I believe all the major imageboards have noko. 711chan does..
>>31
Is that a major board now? I suppose it's nice that I can't understand what any of the board titles mean, it's better than just copying 4chan.
$boardname =~ /[0-9]+chan/;
Also looking through the boards on there, it's a bottomless pit of stupid.
>>31
They aren't major if they use kusaba or a fork of it.
The only major imageboards are 4chan and Futaba, to be completely honest. Most of the imageboards that are referred to as "major" don't generate enough traffic to be categorized as such. They're like the cream of the crop of B-movies. And besides, the only other imageboard moot's even acknowledged existance of to date was 7chan, and that was only to quell rumors that he was buying it, and to openly call it a piece of shit.
If you call 711chan major, your standards of what's major and what isn't need some adjusting.
>>36
711chan was major, like, when /i/ was around, not anymore though!
No it wasn't, and isn't going to be. There are maybe 250 posts maximum on each of the boards, and thats because there is no auto prune in place.
>>38
No, it was major, not necessarily post-wise, but *chan culture-wise; Until September came around and they all went back to school.
>>39
I lurk quite a bit and I'd never heard of them aside from their server being hacked once.
>>40
They were only major during that chanology shit, the only thing about them that was EVER notable.
This discussion is useless. Even Russian 2ch.ru's traffic is close to Japanese 2chan.net's one.
>>43 Cutting Off Your Kneecap and Using It As A Condom?
That, and taking a shit on a book in a book store and putting it back on the shelf.
>They were only major during that chanology shit, the only thing about them that was EVER notable.
I'm frankly surprised ANY chan would admit to being involved in that faggotry. Then I re-read and saw this:
>it was major, not necessarily post-wise, but *chan culture-wise; Until September came around and they all went back to school.
711chan has always been a shitty board run by teenagers. It has never been major, and theres a good reason why.
>*chan has always been a shitty board run by teenagers.
>>48
I think most of the people involved in the administration of iichan are older than 19. Explains a lot, too.
>>49 Not when it all was started, but now we're all actually legal.
My only problem is that I only really need that feature when I use sage. Because when you sage even on a slow board, that thread might be all the way down. It's just a matter of convinience, nothing that gets me too upset, but it is a visible problem for me.
I don't know about other boards, but using the back button on 4chan after posting is a nightmare. I use opera, so no matter how many times I spam the back button, it doesn't go past the "Updating page" page. There is only one way to go, forward.
Nokoing is something on 4chan that lets you see your post.
moar
I want noko in Kareha....
noko ono:
To remain in place for the rest of your career.
>>55
Add it. Estimated time to add feature = 1 minutes, estimated code change = 5 lines.
Can someone post EXACTLY how to implement noko in wakaba?
>>58
Apply the patch in http://wakaba.c3.cx/sup/kareha.pl/1256252904/10. If you need it dumbed down beyond that, you shouldn't be touching it in the first place.
