YKK Forum

feedback

Has there been any indication that Ashinano-sensei reads this forum or the one at Lycos? Of course, thats only if he reads english...

I just find, reading through the forums, that there are a lot of theories and spec and I can only imagine the kind of theorizing and spec that goes on on Japanese boards. I wonder if Ashinano-sensei crafts the story in response to that, sometimes.

just a thought.

I hope he ignores us all and surprises us with totally unanticipated developments.

Howdy,

There are no indications that he reads these forums. Fandom in Japan is probably enough to keep him busy if he so chooses. From what little web surfing I have done in Japanese, it seems like Ashinano keeps a fairly low profile. I can't find any pictures of the author, any websites about him, nor any interviews. It also seems that he doesn't have the typical harem of assistants that help him to finish chapters.

I have seen scans of sketches he has done for fans, and these likely were done at conventions, so I imagine he attends comic conventions in Japan at least occasionally.

In any case, given how the story is so meticulously plotted, I can't imagine that outside influence have much or any impact on his storytelling.

Best,

Dave

I have no ideas regarding the possibility that he might read these forums, but I find it very unlikely that he would be really influenced by them. Remember, he has been doing this manga for a long time; he is bound to have plenty of ideas on his own by now.
As a side note, time tends to change a person, and I wonder if he is still writing about the same thing now as when he started.

To be honest, I am happier thinking that he has his story in mind independant of fan feedback also. But last semester I wrote a paper on the interactive nature of some parts of the internet, such as "multiple-contributor" stories, or the online A.I. game a couple of years ago. I think it is interesting that the internet provides such quick feedback, allowing creators to adjust in ways they see fit accordingly, or not.

As i said, though, in this case I am happy that it is likely "not". I hope that some of the posters are wrong, that the story is showing signs of wrapping up. Here's hoping for years of more Alpha!
