Drinking Sake

At the town council meeting/celebration of Alphas recovery in volume one Alpha winds up getting drunk (pg 105-106) and dancing (pg107+).

Is it just me, or do pages 106 and 107 give the impression that Alpha might have had more than her "one cup [...] limit"?

Yes, her cup was refilled after the dance and after she downs it she looks at the empty cup as if thinking "where did this come from?", and then passes out. Someone then remarks something like "but she only had two".

Clarification:
I think the rosy cheeks and dancing were the result of a one sake buzz; the second sake after the dance is what floored her.
Saying from somewhere;
The man drinks the first drink,
the second drink drinks the first drink,
the third drink drinks the man.

The other time when Alpha decides to have a lot of Kaluhua with a drop of milk shows she has a pretty low tolerance to alcohol. She got off lucky on that one...

Hmmm. This brings up something I have been thinking about for a while: Japanese (today) have a low tolerabce to alcohol but in the manga this is no longer a problem for them. The (early?) robots, however, have alcohol intolerance.

The same goes for milk intolerance. Something at the back of my mind tells me there is another such pattern here; I just cannot recall it now.

If we are to believe there is a great plan behind this series, and I do, then this surely cannot be a coincidence. Is Alpha a comment on the Japanese today?

Howdy,

Let's be absolutely clear - the Japanese do NOT have a low tolerance to alcohol. I have met many Japanese that could drink you under the table without getting out of first gear. Many Japanese do have a problem metabolizing alcohol efficiently, which shows as symptoms such as a flushed, red face, but that didn't slow anyone down when I lived in Japan. In fact, drinking was something of a National Pastime....

Best,

Dave
