Okay... I can handle many of the characters leaving (even if it may only for a short time). Director Alpha, Takahito, Ayase & Makki... yeah it's sad/unfortunate, but I can deal with it.

BUT!!

I can't handle loosing the scooter. T_T I can't imagine Alpha without her scooter. For some reason loosing the scooter has hit me harder than Takahito leaving. I'm hoping Takahito or Ojisan will be able to fix it or at least give it a tune-up. She obviously can't afford a new one, and I don't know about a car, the roads are really bad, the scooter is obviously better.

I don't think the scooter is going to leave us. With Takahiro leaving and Ojisan getting on in years I would not be suprised to see Alpha drafted as help around the gas station, with a crash course in motor maintenance thrown in for good measure. Alpha does have an affinity for machines (witness the ride in Nie's airplane and piloting Sempi's jet boat) and with a little basic knowlege could be a killer mechanic. I don't think the brokendown car in the shed would have been mentioned if it wes not going to be hauled out at a later date to be revived or to provide an episode or two of frustration for Alpha (reference Alpha's reaction to a stuck attic shutter in the notorious [with me] melon episode).

Melon episode? Could you give a chapter number? Having trouble finding it with my slow connection.

"Right now I want the mangaka to make new characters"

Eh. I don't think it's necessary. New characters should only be brought in as the story requires it; not the other way around. One of the big reasons I can't stand most of Takahashi Rumiko's work is she seems to only be able to create plot by introducing new characters. It's a completely backwards approach, and I'd really hate to see Ashinano fall into that trap.

Of course, I'm waiting for the big plane to land...this is a manga that could last a generation (I'm NOT saying Ashitano-san is slow, really...)

Howdy,

But he is slow, relatively speaking. Ah Megami-sama (Oh My Goddess) runs in the same monthly magazine as does YKK. In the same ten year span, Ah Megami sama has 26 collected volumes, while YKK has 10.

I suspect that Ashinano does YKK all by himself without assistants though.

Personally, I'm happy with the current pacing, and think it's a testament to YKK's quality that Afternoon allows a strip with such a (relatively) small page count to stay on for ten years.

Best,

Dave
