Volume 10: Scans, Ashinano's comment, & Maruko.

Just want to share these scans with people here since I just got my copy of Volume 10, and because the comment and the extra Maruko manga strip are not there in the Contents.

Front cover:

Ashinano' s comment (front cover):
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/painsama/ykk_10_front_comment.jpg

Here is the rough translation:

On a rainy day, I looked mindlessly at the shape of a pool of muddy water, bounded by its edges. Somehow, it resembled satellite pictures of oceans and rivers, bounded by the shores. "Star Level" models of those oceans and rivers were just down my feet, and, at that very moment, I felt that the level of my eyes was above that of satellite orbit.

Maruko (back cover):

Here is the rough translation:

Title: Maruko-chan's "Dangerous... maybe"

1st frame:
Dialog box 1: Maruko here! Currently a professional illustrator.
Dialog box 2: But at that time, I was still working part time at a picture frame shop.

2nd frame:
Dialog box 1: Some day, I wanted to be a full-fledged illustrator.
Dialog box 2: Maru-chan, let have some tea...
Dialog box 3: Okay.

3rd frame:
Dialog box 1: The work is somewhat boring, and I could not draw anthing...
Dialog box 2: You're the only one taking care of the shop...
Dialog box 3: No, it's okay.
Dialog box 4: But, I tried my best.

4th frame:
Dialog box 1: About the inheritance of this shop...
Dialog box 2: If I don't run away now...

Extra illustrations (inside the tankoubon):

That is so nice of you....And the maruko gag was nice, even if I didn't get it....

Seem to me that Maruko was afraid that the shop owner want to inherit that shop to her (I guess that the shop owner has no heir to begin with, as it is known that in YKK young people are rarely seen), then no way she would be able to pursue her dream as an illustrator. My 2nd guess, is (in the last frame), that the shop owner would go on talking, once he started on talking about inheritance. Actually the literal translation for the 1st box in the last frame is "Heir/inheritance problem solution..."

Sorry... ^^; Got to change the translation for Maruko (back cover):
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/painsama/ykk_10_back_4.jpg

It should be:

Title: Maruko-chan's "Dangerous... maybe"

1st frame:
Dialog box 1: Maruko here! Essentially a professional illustrator.
Dialog box 2: But currently, I'm still working part time at a picture frame shop.

2nd frame:
Dialog box 1: Some day, I want to be a full-fledged illustrator, just like other people.
Dialog box 2: Maru-chan, let's have some tea...
Dialog box 3: Okay.

3rd frame:
Dialog box 1: Though the work is somewhat boring, and I con't draw anthing while working...
Dialog box 2: Again it looks like you're the only one taking care of this shop...
Dialog box 3: No, it's okay.
Dialog box 4: But, I tried my best.

4th frame:
Dialog box 1: About the inheritance of this shop...
Dialog box 2: If I don't run away...

This translation fits this page better:

Have you noticed that the strange "ears" in these two pictures are quite similar?

Coincidence?

"Coincidence?"

I don't think so...

Whoa, I never noticed that before, the ghost image of the flying Alpha.

Howdy,

The ghost image of Alpha flying is a scanning artifact. It is the panel on the opposite site of the thin newsprint page that is bleeding through. I just checked my copy of Afternoon to be sure. The bunny ears are legit, though.

Best,

Dave

"The bunny ears are legit, though. "

Yes... Thas is what I was aiming at.

Kokone seems to have her own kind of OOB experiencies when exposed to music (and lately thanks to her new scooter's engine), though much weaker and more muted than Alpha's, and without completely realising that too.

Best example was chapter 17, Waves, when she suddenly found herself inside Alpha's world (http://ykk.misago.org/Volume3/28-29.html), though if it only was a daydream or not, is debatable...

However, I wonder about the meaning of depicting the "bunny ears" both in Kokone's daydream and Alpha's last OOB. Some link is implied....

In Alpha's case, I don't think that it was OOBE (out of body experience), since, in OOBE, the subject is able to see him/herself, doing nothing, while in this page:

http://www.cafealpha.org/ch125/13.html

she was sitting on the bike, before the so called OOBE, and when she had this flying experience, her physical existence dissapeared from the bike, indicating that she actually had physical flying experience, instead of being OOBE.

And Takahiro saw her that day:

http://ykk.misago.org/Volume7/6.html, http://ykk.misago.org/Volume7/8.html.

If it wasn't her physical form, Takahiro would not have seen her.

I still wonder where did all the clothes go when she had this flying experience... ^_^

And those two "bunny ears" too are still... mysterious. Maybe they are just Ashinano's way of indicating paranormal experiences experienced by the robots, while not really something physical to be seen by human.

Quite a hot front cover. I wish I could "zoom out" it a bit...
