While thinking about Alphas aging in ch 130 and considering the time that has passed, a frightful thought hit my mind.
How old is the author of this manga actually? YKK is running since more than ten years and I guess it's safe to say that almost everyone here wants to see it continue for at least the same time period.
But what if Ashinano retires beforehand... *shiver*

With some deft use of Wikipedia (well, reading entry on YKK, clicking on the name of the author, and then the symbol for Nihongo in the left column) we find this entry: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E8%8A%A6%E5%A5%88%E9%87%8E%E3%81%B2%E3%81%A8%E3%81%97
which says April 1963. Plans on retirement would seem somewhat premature.
Bonus trick: take the above link, paste it to the Google search box and then use the Google translator. Translations can vary in quality but unless I am mistaken it looks like he was awarded a prize, possibly for YKK.
Hopefully those with a genuine grasp on Japanese can take a closer look and perhaps also update the English language entry on the author.

Howdy,
I'm not sure that's him. The dude on the right is the store owner. The dude on the left seems to be the narrator who went to the store with Ashinano sensei. I'll have to run it past a native speaker to be sure. Stay tuned.
Best,
Dave

I found this Ashinano picture with Choro Club, the group that made the soundtracks for YKK OVA2.

This time we're sure that it's him in that picture since it's written down there:
Front row: Original author Ashinano-san...
