What is your favorite chapter of YKK so far?
And why?

Volume 7, chapter 61 - Crimson mountain (Beni no yama). I like "after the rain" sensation, in the last page of that chapter.

I love any chapter with Maruko in it, but especially Chapter 107, "Regular Customer." Probably because of this page:

It's nice to see Maruko is aware of how she's been treating Kokone.

I have to pick two, both taking place when Alpha returns from her journeys
First chapter 77 volume 9, Salt
http://ykk.misago.org/Volume9/10
I love this very moment when the wave breaks on her, and she enjoys it, instead of being scared. It is so telling of Alpha's take on the world...
and a bit later, http://ykk.misago.org/Volume9/11.html, when she feels the salt on her skin and licks it. Something completely normal, something everybody has experiences after bathing in the sea but that nobody has taken the care of depicting.
And then chapter 79 volume 9, Night of earth
http://ykk.misago.org/Volume9/41
Alpha's last thoughts before getting asleep. Something so simple, so unimportant and, at the same time, so beatifully described.
As somebody has said in the forum. Ashinano is at his best when nothing happens

You have said it all David! Ashinano is better when nothing happens. If all chapters were thought to be only an exploration of the atmosphere I wouldn´t mind XDD

Yokosuka Cruise, chapter 22. Loss and memories and visual genius (and Sensei, one of my favorite characters). The OAV of this chapter is beautifully rendered.

What was the chapter where Alpha fixes the engine on the model airplane, and she watches it run and run until it uses all the gas it has and dies.....?? I absolutely loved that chapter-- very simple, as always, very straightforward, but with a lot of really profound philosophical implications as well.
I also really enjoyed the chapter mentioned above, where Alpha returns and she "sinks into the bed," with the next line being "the bed sinks into the earth."
Sigh.

Wow, there are so many great chapters to choose from... Pretty much every one of those already listed here are favorites of mine, as well as every chapter about Director Alpha and the Tarpon.
But if I had to choose only one chapter, as to show YKK to someone, it would be Record III ( http://ykk.misago.org/Volume6/65 ). I'm not sure how to explain, but, in it's shortness, it has every element that makes YKK the wonder it is. It's quiet and contemplative, beautiful and somewhat melancolic, it's about everyday life but feels incredibly profound. In short, it's about nothing and everything, and all that's in-between

Wow, that is such a glorious picture of Alpha there too. Thanks.
In a lot a ways, the very first chapter is one of my favorites. The artwork on the first page, with her standing by the bike, peeking over her sun-glasses...
It's really just as much about the stunning artwork for me as it is about the story. I can't get enough of it. So I vote for chapter one because that is the one that hooked me.
* heads off to reread the whole series *

Ok, sorry for double posting, but Nietz just mentioned Chapter 48... Also I love Chapter 49 "Hot Sand" where Alpha takes the two kids to the beach.
This is in Vol 6 and I love the picture on page 83, where Makki-chan is floating in the water, she just has that look of complete weighlessness, her hands and feet not quite touching the bottom... Her eyes looking straight ahead. It is such a cool image.

Not quite sure about the favourite chapter... (another reason for another re-reading! :-) ) but the favourite page is this:
http://ykk.misago.org/Afternoon2002/167.html
Just because it is so perfect in every possible way. It captures the essential athmosphere of YKK world. Alpha has found ancient wending machine, bought a drink, wondered the situation, and in the final page she looks from the past to the future, even though the world is dimming...
Superb coloring of superb drawings might have also helped in forming this opinion a little bit.

ch 18 Historic Musashino
This chapter´s color (brown) is wonderful.
ch 105 Choukoku
http://ykk.misago.org/Afternoon2003/74.html
I think Alpha has right: It´s just too sweet.
ch 79 Night Of Earth
I think this chapter is the best.

ch 28 - Connections (Sensei's story and the flight of Misago) This chapter impressed me most, though there are many others with perfect art and nice story.

There are so many superb chapters that i really can't isolate a favorite.
So i will say the Volume 3, chapter 23 because i feel it as different.
This chapter seems to break a bit the overall mood of the volume, adding a comical tone to it.
A very funny moment with the Misago in one of her very brief appearances in the whole YKK story.

My favorite and a few others were listed here:

I find it interesting that a lot of people are saying "Heartbeat" and "Night of the Earth" more often than other chapters. Coincidence? ^_^
