while looking for more stuff on YKK, i came across another forum http://members.lycos.co.uk/cafealpha/ its just getting started, but its easier to navigate than the one here, and you can catogorise the posts and stuff, like most others forums.
If you dont want to join there is it possible to upgrade this forum to that format?

This forum works fine as is. You don't need to be a member in order to post and this is where you'll find a lot of the eleves hanging out. There's also a ykk community over on LJ that gets little traffic and posting outside of my "Hey I updated my 100 Alpha icons" posts but you don't see them begging members to come and tell them about it.
Yes I knew that place existed, it has been since 2003 so it's inevitable some people from here have checked it out. As the last person pointed out as long as Neil keeps this up and running and the Elves tell people this exists we'll keep coming here. It's as plain as that. I could pester people about the tiny YKK thread I have on the mediaminer forums in the anime section but that's been more to inform the converts there when Neil or the Elves have done something good like update the sites. I don't see a mass migration there anytime soon unless all of our topics go with it. A few people joining there as well as posting here yes that may happen.
Switching over to that format would mean more money for Niel or the Elves to spend on a forum. Then it would require people to moderate and maintain that thing every day. This way we moderate ourselves and Niel has no extra out of pocket costs to maintain more space on here for a forum of that size. Also, if we go to that format we'd loose all the discussions we have here and someone would have to create all new RSS forms for the last ten posts like we have here. And then someone else would have to shell out money for an account that would allow them to put up an RSS journal over on LJ so that those of us on there can follow this forum. While it is a good idea it's one that takes time and money to pull off.

Hmm..in his March 11th, 2003 newspost, neil wrote:

It's a good read..
Although I don't mind the lycos/phpbbs type forum I rather like the misago.org forum..it's very simple and nondistracting. =)

I agree, I prefer this type of forums.
When I original was looking for a forum for my own two sites was try to find one like this but in the end went with phpBB because I couldn't find one.
At least phpBB lets me keep the spammers under control but only way to do that is force registration with me being the word on who gets in or not. But keeps me from spending 4 hours a day deleting AD/SPAM based message from my forums.
Just not very community friendly like that article says.
