Chapter 109 scans

Howdy,

I have finally gotten around to scanning chapter 109. For those of you who just want to see the original Japanese pages, please use this link:

http://homepage.mac.com/d_limiter/PhotoAlbum3.html

For those of you who want the full size raws, I have made the zip file of the raw scans available:

http://homepage.mac.com/d_limiter/ykk_109.zip

Please note, the scans are not the best (only 300 dpi, crooked pages, no white correction, etc., etc., etc.) but they will get you started with the translation, until Neil and Defiler can get their own (higher quality) scans done.

Can you tell that I hate scanning? (I would rather translate....)

Best,

Dave

Howdy,

For those of you who don't speak Japanese, here is a summary of the chapter to tide you over until Neil and others get the scanlation out.

Alpha and Takahiro go to a broken down dock on the bay. Alpha mentions how it's strange that the dock stays cool even though it's in the sun and doesn't get any breeze. Alpha is chatty, while Takahiro just murmurs agreement to whatever she says.

Alpha mentions that this is the same dock where she asked Takahiro to take the scooter. She has fun with comparing that at the time, he was scared to open up the throttle on the scooter, but now he is inviting her out on drives.

Takahiro finally mentions that he is going to get some training in the country to the west, since there isn't much opportunity around here. Alpha is excited, and says that when Takahiro comes back, he'll be a fully grown adult. Takahiro says that he doesn't think he'll be coming back, that he'll likely settle over there as it's really far. This realization makes Alpha somber.

Takahiro is leaving the day after tomorrow. He tells Alpha that he'll try to find the time to come visit as much as possible. Alpha says that "big sister's" only special technique is waiting, and that she will be waiting for him.

Evening slowly falls over the bay.

Best,

Dave

Thanks a lot for the scans.
Where the heck is my copy? It's late this month. Heh.
Another melancholy chapter. This manga really likes to bring the hurting.

Howdy,

How do you get your copies of Afternoon? I'm trying to decide if I should get a subscription, or if I should have a friend in Japan send it over.

Best,

Dave

I have a subscription via AnimeNation.com
Good guys, pretty cheap.
However, if you wanted them ASAP, you can get them sooner if you have a reliable friend EMS them to you every month. Heh.
This will be the first time so far that I haven't received the issue before the 10th of the month.

I wrote in another post about the comparison between Alpha and the abandoned vending machine. After reading 109, I feel that particular comic was probably forshadowing.

Now we find that the boy is going to probably be leaving, the white ship has left, there was the discussion of Maki growing up and leaving with the wanderer.

This whole series started with the the discussion of Alpha's owner leaving. Lately, after all of the excitement of Alpha's travels, I find that I feel the tone of the comic is becoming more and more still. It makes me sad, and I hope it isn't a harbinger that the end of the comic is coming.

Although I love the slow, relaxing story, I hope the creator will inject some excitement soon. Perhaps a little more exposition on who the Owner is, or perhaps about the Misago, or maybe something about Director Alpha.
