A while back there were some posts about the identity of Alpha’s lute-like instrument. It’s been called a “yueqin”. I was reminded of that because a few weeks ago I visited the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and saw a yueqin on display in their musical instrument collection. They translate its name as “moon guitar”. It certainly looks like the instrument depicted in YKK. This link has more information from the MFA website, http://www.mfa.org/artemis/fullrecord.asp?oid=51051&did=600
YKK fans in the Boston area should check out the MFA, and not just for the yueqin. They have one of the best collection of classical Japanese art in the U.S.
