Thanks a lot, dDave. I think this chapter is now one of my favorites. So sad and wistful...

I'm listening to http://home.pacbell.net/paperdog/Beautiful%20Life%20-%20Konya%20Tsuki%20No%20Mieru%20Oka%20Ni%20%7ECello%20and%20Piano%20version.mp3 right now..it's a song from the Japanese drama "Beautiful Life". I think it fits the mood pretty well.

Man I almost cried when Alpha looked at the sleeping Makki and started thinking about how much Makki and Takahiro have grown up. I loved the part when she says it's too fast and then starts looking at her reflection in the window. Definately a wonderful chapter.

Gorgeous. It's sad to think of everyone growing up and growing old around Alpha, and she'll always be the same, never changing.

Nice chapter. Loved Makki's comment after she woke up :)
Thanks for posting it!

I wonder after that a had read this chapter if we will se some flashbacks from Alpha in the near future.
Or a meting between Makki and Maruko. That should be an interesting chapter.

I just had soba zenzai today, for the first time of my life. It tastes sweet and smells a bit funny, eh, fantastic!

I took some photos:

Howdy,

Soba Zenzai is also what Alpha and Maruko ate together at their last meeting.

I hope Neil gets back soon, 'cause dDave, you're torturing us. ^_^ I don't mind waiting that much, though.

kGo, that's great! I love your "Behind the Scenes" pages.

Howdy,

Boy, I hope so too. I like translating, but I hate, hate, hate scanning.

So if soba zenzai is a sweet dish, is it a dessert? Or can it be eaten as a meal in its own right?

I have the opposite problem.

Actually, it's the process of applying the translation to the image that pops my brain...

The way Alpha was watching Makki sleep was just what it's like watching one of my cats do funny things in their sleep :)

I wonder how hard it would be to get Afternoon in Australia...

After a little more contemplation..

That potted plant in chapter 119 made it's first appearance in chapter 89. Back then it was much smaller, and if you read on from there you can see that it has been growing steadily.

Now the little plant is flowering! How cute. And when Alpha closes the window she moves the plant right next to Makki :)

If you have looked back at chapter 89 you will have noticed that there were two little plants sitting together. Later on one sits on the window sill and the other sits on the counter. I couldn't find a picture of the second plant in the later chapters. One for Makki and one for Takahiro? It was last seen a while before he left.

Wow, thats a nice find. I didnt even notice there were plants in that chapter. Pretty incredible story telling. This is why YKK is so good.

Peter,
Yes, zenzai tastes really sweet. I think you can say that zanzai is rather a dessert than a meal.

Zenzai is usually eaten some time after a meal as a separate snack rather than a course. Some sophisticated restaurant serves it as a last course of a meal.

I ordered soba noodle and soba zenzai at the same time. My soba zenzai was served after I finished my soba noodle.

Carn,
Thanks!

Thanks for putting out this chapter, y'all. It's really great to see a new chapter.

Thanks for the info on zanzai, that was my next question.

Also kudos for Brad for noticing the plant. After hearing that and reading it again, the plant is obviously given more attention than usual. : ) Hmmmm.....

@kGo

Thanks for the clarification! It is just that the soba zenzai that I have seen, always looked so elaborate, it was hard to tell whether it was a course or a dessert/snack.
