Huge Imageboard Culture Development (51)

One thing I forgot to mention - as yet another board whose entire selling point was "it's not 4chan!" it was pretty much doomed from the start. Most of the other successful imageboards out there do so because they found some kind of niche to fill: 420chan has drugs and pro-wrestling, Krautchan caters to German speakers and those interested in foreign politics. I notice that this is the case even on 4chan, while it's technically a site for general interests, those interested in anime stay mostly on /a/, technology-lovers stay on /g/, gamers on /v/, etc. For as much as moot tries to promote the "one big happy 4chan family" thing, most of the bigger boards have their own distinct cultures and in-jokes and very little cross-boarding and could for all intents and purposes be completely separate websites and not many people would notice.
