Anyone else think moot might be using the DDOS as an excuse to finally give up? Think about it, in the Time interview he's expressed his frustration over the difficulty in running the site with barely enough money to pay for it, and that stupid cat site making 3 million bucks while he gets nothing at all might be the final straw for him. Added with the incresingly negative publicity and how problematic /b/ has gotten over the past 2 years, and, well...maybe it's time to give up.
Considering all the shit that the site has gone through over the past 5 years, it's more surprising that it even lasted that long. Now that it's too popular, and subsequently too expensive to run, the DDOS is the perfect excuse to shut it down for good. The blame for the site's downfall gets shifted to someone else, while moot can simply sneak out the back door and no one will ever blame him. The end?

I doubt it. He had just announced that new features and changes to improve the site were coming soon. While some might argue that death would be the biggest improvement of all for 4chan, I don't think moot really feels that way. He actually has been very annoyed about the whole "moot hates 4chan," idea floating around.
If, OTOH, you think he might simply not be exerting maximum effort to get the site back up as quickly as possible - sort of using the opportunity to relax a bit - then you might be on to something. He certainly doesn't take the site as seriously as some of the users do (which I would argue is a sign that he is still sane).

I am glad, but mostly because it will help rid iichan of asshats. I'm not sure I'm going back to 4chan with the rest of the non-/b/ refugees. The first two days or so of waiting out the DDoS here (Tuesday and Wednesday), where a a few of us who were sporadic visitors to iichan anyhow were hanging out, but the masses hadn't found it yet, were pretty good. Then the throngs of uncouth children (either in actual age or merely in terms of mental maturity), showed up and turned the place to shit. Suddenly many of the boards were flooded with stale and/or stupid memes, trolling, namecalling, and off-topic image macros - all the things that are wrong with 4chan (and all the things, mind you, that are supposed to be banned, even on 4chan, outside of /b/). I'm sick and tired of that crap (I'll admit that there was a time when I was guilt of it, too; but I've outgrown it), so maybe I'll just stay here and hope that 4chan will contain it in the future. There's no denying that the traffic on iichan/wakachan/4-ch is lighter than I'd prefer, but the S/N ratio is such that iichan may still come out ahead of 4chan, when the quality of posts is considered.
