noko (69)

I noticed that among the major English-language imageboards, only 4chan supports nokoing. Why is this? Neither Wakaba nor Trevorchan understand it.

What is noko?

How can I stay in a thread after I post?

By entering "noko" into the [E-mail] field (by itself). After submission, you will be returned to the reply view of the thread you just posted in.

This is because 4chan made up that feature. Futaba doesn't have it.

I haven't implemented anything like it because I don't think it's a good feature. Its only use is for mass uploads, and mass uploads isn't what image boards should be about in the first place.

only if your browser is horribly broken.

Sometimes when I start a thread, I am interested in the replies. And when the board is busy, it can be a very hard task to find the thread I just posted without noko. On a slow board the thread will be right at the top of course, but I might still want to bookmark it to check for replies later.

"Noko" is also tremendously useful when chatting with someone in a thread. Of course imageboards should not be used for chat, but not even text boards like Kareha or Shiichan support it.

On a slow board it doesn't matter but I'm looking for a script for a board I hope will be popular.

And tell me, how many times do you click [< Back] right after posting, instead of just continuing to browse the thread index? Depends on board speed, but on a fast board the can ratio well be over 10.

Or if your post was long.

2ch.ru which is based on wakaba has a switch: After posting go to ()Thread ()Board

the browser should never resubmit a POST request when you click the back button. the length of the post should not make any difference.

It would take a minor miracle for any image board to become as popular and fast-moving as 4chan's /b/.

And why on earth would you bookmark threads on /b/ when tabbed browsing is available? Leave browsing for the main window and open threads in tabs. Then just hit the back button if things move so fast your reply is off the front page. With the excellent plugin Tab Mix Plus you can even close Firefox and open it again with all the tabs still there.

So who wants to go tell Apple their browser is horribly broken?

1) Tabs violate the HIG. Notwithstanding,
2) That is exactly what I'm doing (except for the tabs part), and I want frames to remain at the thread I opened them for. I find myself clicking back almost always. I don't wanna see my own reply, I want to see other people's replies...
3) You need no extension for Firefox to restore tabs on startup. It can do it by itself since 1.4
4) On /b/ there is no need to do this, the 4chan extension includes a "Thread watcher" which solves this in a much more user-friendly manner.

It's not! How do you end up with double posts exactly?

By clicking the Back button after making a post. I don't actually use Safari though; I assumed it was WebKit's doing but maybe it's a new "feature" in Shiira.

Do you use an older version of Safari? Or is it the interface that makes it a pain to open a new tab from a link?

4chan is the only board that needs it.
