I just now noticed that the original /b/, Futaba's Nijiura board, has been RESET! Post numbers in the twenty millions, WIPED OUT!
All of this, apparently, to move it to a new server, may.2chan.net, and to upgrade the script to a newer version that supports image replies. Furthermore, it appears Toshiaki is back.
As of right now, post numbers are in the 139000s, so I guess this happened fairly recently, no more than a couple of days back. What will become of the biggest board of them all?
Discuss!
I wonder who 2GOT.
Is it now going to be the only futaba board with image reply?
Considering the thread turnover rate, I don't think they'll skip a beat.
Several boards have had image replies for some time... They've been adding them as they go along. The first board to get them was the own art board, I think, just over a year ago. That was right when I was initially developing Wakaba, and I was wondering if it would be a good idea or not to add image replies.
zOMG this means 4chan's /b/ will have the upper hand for some time!
For a week or two... Actually, I'm going to see just how many posts per day that board gets now.
Well, 24 hours later, and post numbers are in the 175000:s. That's 36000 posts in 24 hours, or one every 2.4 seconds. At that rate, it'll catch up with 4chan's 1.4 million in just over a month.
Well wait then. At that rate, how long should it would it have taken to reach 20,000,000 posts?
Seems like the post count has been restored or something.
At least right now I see posts with numbers exceeding 25 million.
Actually, no, it just looks like the old board is still up, but unlinked. Except, of course, from all the alternative 2chan navigators.
The new board is at http://may.2chan.net/b/futaba.htm, while the old is at http://img.2chan.net/b/futaba.htm.
Oh, right. I am accessing Futaba through my own lil html-frame. My bad.

i didn't notice anything in the configuration files for Futallaby for adding image replies, so i added that feature (with my ability to use Copy and Paste). i still have some cosmetic spacing issues to address, but other than that it works okay.
the thumbnails in image replies are set to be exactly half the size of whatever the thumbnail size is set to in the configuration file. if you change the configuration file to allow larger thumbnails, the previously generated image reply thumbnails probably won't look very good, as they'll be stretched out.
i can't find any licensing information for Futallaby anywhere in its distribution; however, seeing as the code is instantly downloadable, i don't think they'll have a problem with me offering these changes.
if anyone's interested, feel free to email me.
If you post an image reply and then delete the thread, can you post the image again?
Self-promotion!
OR, you could use a script that already does all that, and was written properly from the ground up.

i agree with you; i think we should have used Wakaba. the board administrator grabbed the first board script he found, which happened to be at the bottom of 4chan's pages, and configured it. he asked me if it was possible to do image replies, and i wanted an excuse to learn a little PHP, so i told him i'd do it. nothing against the work others have done to make better imageboard scripts.
i'll have to see if Futallaby's SQL tables are similar to Wakaba's, if we move to that in the future...
I think a simple translation of column names, and adding default values for any columns that might not exist, should be enough. You may need to change the parent value to be explicitly 0 for thread start posts too... I haven't looked too closely at the futaba table layout.
Well...
I'll be damned! A third /b/! Unknown to many of us for... years?
Oh, wait. Actually, that's the first /b/, from before they switched to img.2chan.net
So the old /b/s were never taken down, Futaba just doesn't link to them from the portal anymore... And yet people still post to them. As massively as ever...
Together, the three /b/s of Futaba have about 56,000,000 posts, as of now.
And that's just crazy.
Oh god. That's utterly crazy.
I hypothesize that there is an upper limit on posting speed which is independant of the number of people posting, and is determined by the speed at which a page can be reloaded and read, and replies typed.
When you hit this saturation point, splitting the board in two will lead to a large increase in the total number of posts made, as the posts that would have never been made due to the board being saturated can now be posted.
Currently the dat board is getting about 943 posts an hour, corresponding to 22632 posts a day. This is likely inaccurate since posting rates do vary over the day. So it's slightly lower than the newest nijiura, after being unlinked for... how long?
I really need to make some tools for measuring posting speeds.
I bet there are already tools like that...
Also, there ARE places linking to the other /b/s... like http://njtown.fc2web.com/frame.html for instance. I also suspect the Toshiaki having some sort of individual browsing interface for Futaba.
One might also notice that the name field got reintroduced for the may.2chan.net /b/

This seems to be a site dedicated to keep watch over awesome img.2chan.net /b/ threads:
why isn't their /b/ terribly disgusting like the english ones?
The disgusting stuff mostly goes on the 3D-guro board and the Refugee Shelter board (aka moejp).
In other news: may has gotten over 1 million posts in less than two months.
I dunno what's wrong with the old may nijiura board but the adress has changed.
New one is now: http://may.2chan.net/b_/futaba.htm

Note that I am not talking about the board having moved to the may server but the adress having changed from /b/ to /b_/
yup, as I thought:

It seems like they have changed the page limit on the may nijiura board to 10.
Previously, I saw as much as 30 pages...
Does anyone know what this says?
> 08/09 前日8日の時点でWinnyユーザーをターゲットとしたトロイの木馬、キンタマウィルスに二次裏may掲示板をターゲットとするものが現れ、高負荷がかかったことから、二次裏may掲示板のurlを変更する。
I believe it explains the weird URL changing for the may Nijiura board.
maybe:
URL of "may" nijiura was changed because the Winny "kintama" trojan was targeting the board, and causing high server load.
Something about a Winny virus targetting may, I think.
*gasp*
Look what I just found:

New /b/?

It's a Nijiura spin-off from the original "Live Discussion" board, http://dat.2chan.net/18/futaba.htm
How do you figure? It's titled "Nijiura", and it's replaced may on the front page.
...obviously this means the court has moved to the Winter Nijiura.

My bad. I confused >>41 with http://nov.2chan.net/24/futaba.htm
Looks like they keep switching between nov and may on the main page. Ghetto load balancing?

While i dont really understand the reasoning behind AJAX imageboards, i would say, sure go for it to be the first behind it and then work on everything once u have the base. GUID's dont really work for a single imageboard, because essesstinally i can understand it as, its like the same imageboard, but run at difference places yet has different content. So why not just run a linked imageboard and save some hassle?
...
Yep i dont really know what im talking about
